    5.1 speakers vs DH/SC/etc.

Curious, what's the benefit of going for active speakers over passive? I thought passive was the way to go because they do everything active does except they also let you choose your own amp/dac/etc., is that not the case?

    5.1 speakers vs DH/SC/etc.

So what I'm after is 3D gaming sound positional accuracy and also sound quality. I do have the $$$ to spend on speakers (or more accurately, I found a really old but very decent 5.1 setup for very cheap - which I hope counts :D), but what I don't know about are room acoustics and...

5.1 Speakers for PC Gaming (positional audio)

Yep, receiver is the Sony STR-DH800. Gaming on a PC - which Is part of the problem as I need to sit at a desk, which doesn’t leave clear space for the speakers. At the moment the desk is up against the wall, meaning the front and centre speakers are very close to me.

5.1 Speakers for PC Gaming (positional audio)

Hey guys. I‘ve recently started migrating from my trusty Sennheiser HD 598s to a receiver/passive speakers setup. I first tried a 2.1 setup with Q Acoustics 2020 bookshelves on my desk and a Wharfedale sub and it blew me away, the sound quality is incredible, it’s insanely fun to listen to, and...

    5.1 speakers vs DH/SC/etc.

I realise this is 8 years old, but I wanted to check in on how you’re finding gaming with desktop speakers nowadays - if you still do it :) (Basically I’ve recently bought a 5.1 set of Tannoys and have been setting them up around my room, but I don’t think I’m quite there yet for PC games. Been...

    Samson SR850 Velour Pads

Wow where did you order them from and for how much? The stock pads really are quite nice after the clamping force dies down :)

    Samson SR850 Velour Pads

Thanks for bumping my thread guys :)   Can you get those pads in the UK too?   Anyhow, after a few more weeks the stock pads actually loosened up and are much more comfortable. I never did bother buying new pads, then gave the SR850s to my cousin :)

On another note, orthodynamic headphones!   They are apparently similar to electrostatics like Stax which are apparently the ultimate in gaming. And they are much cheaper.   So whats the deal with those?

Friend want budget headphones that will completely blow his mind in movies and games (if there is such a thing), and luckily he is a complete noob when it comes to audio so I want to suggest something that has the right qualities that audio noobs tend to enjoy!   Limit is about £40/$100...

    Got the aurvanas...omg

Quote: Really? I was running them through a Xonar DG and couldn't hear footsteps for jack in MW3. But again I heard that MW3 soundwhoring has been heavily nerfed since the previous games.   Probably for the price they are amazing, but I found the much more expensive DT770s to be...

Quote: Lol the thread was cruising from graphics cards to mountain bikes to god knows what!   Anyway I was slightly confused because in your gaming headphones thread over at AVS you mention the HD598s in the elite range, but there's no talk of any Beyers (at least on the first page)...
