Music _majors_: how long do you practice your instrument every day?

Well, I'm a percussion performance major and I know that 1.5 hours is nowhere near enough time. Here is my typical day, Wake up around 8, take a quick shower and eat breakfast on my way to the music building. Get there by 8:45, practice until my class at 11. From there I go straight to my...

    I'm looking for something Beautiful.

Well, I'd like to add a few to the list: Elgar - Nimrod from the Enigma Variations Mahler - Adagio (mvt. 4) from Symphony No. 5 Barber - Adagio for strings With the barber, I personally prefer Agnus Dei which is a choral arrangement that he made of adagio for strings, but I think...

Classical noob who really needs help in the genre

Messian has a lot of great stuff, quartet for the end of time is pretty well liked. I really like Vaughan Williams, I'd suggest The Lark Ascending, it's a violin concerto, I also really like his greensleeves. Are you looking for purely tonal things? I mean, that's pretty much what has...

Which Cell provider would you use?

I meant coverage when I said service...I am not so naiive as to think that I could find good customer service from a cell phone company. So, I guess coverage and price would be what I was looking for.

What, for you, is Mid-fi? Hi-Fi?

I have a different opinion than I have seen so far... I think of everything as trying to reproduce the sound of instruments/voice and that's what I think of when I listen. I've never gotten the same feeling as when I am part of an ensemble or when I am in the concert hall listening, and I've...

Head-Fi 2007 Christmas Gift Exchange Whadjaget? Thread

I was partnered up with Firam, he sent me Hlidskjalf - Burzum. I've listened to it, and I'm really digging it. I never would have gotten my hands on it were it not for the gift exchange, thanks Firam. I hope you like the CD I sent - It should be arriving any day. Oh, and this is the Holiday...

    Recommend me violin albums

I would recommend getting an album with Vaughan William's The Lark Ascending. There are tons of recordings of it, and they're all very different, so I would just listen to the samples online and if one seems to have a sound that you like, go for it.

    epic music

A few that popped into my head right away... Ravel Orchestration of Tableaux d'une Exhibition (but only the last movement: La Grande Porte de Kiev), so I don't know if thats exactly what you want. Beethoven -Symphony 9 - It's epic, I don't know what more to say Berlioz - Symphonie...

    Anyone else lose interest?

I mostly just read the members lounge and music sub-forums and don't post all that often. I have a rig that I'm happy with. I like my gear, but I bought it so that I could get closer to the sound of playing in an ensemble. There are lots of people here who know waaaay more about headphones...
