Ykyaaw you win money at the casino and your immediate thought is "look at all the cds I can buy guilt free now"

Ykyaaw your friends now don't let you near the record store because they think you have a problem

Ykyaaw you need two bags to carry all your new CDs.

You know you still have some semblance of sanity when you could have easily bought twice as much but decided it was more important to eat this week

I know some or all of their cables are very durable, and I'm careful with headphones anyway.

Did yours improve after burn-in? If so, please describe any differences you heard and how long it took. The thread I linked to mentioned huge improvements after 600 hours.

Edit: Another thing I noticed: high levels of distortion, on top of the muddy sound. Not good.

Edit 2: I just realized something. From my amp, the LP sounds distorted, but from one of my laptop's headphone jacks, it does not sound distorted! I read something about how amping it makes the bass stronger, so perhaps before it is burnt-in, it's too much, but after it's burnt-in, it won't distort like this while being amplified. Not sure at this point.

Edit 3: I figured out the problem. It was related to playback settings with certain programs. Sounds much better (without the distortion I was hearing before) now that I am avoiding using those settings.

Edit 4: Despite the current overall muddy sound, the LP's upper treble is excellent. Some cymbals sound more realistic than I've ever heard on other headphones.

Edit 5: Playing more and more music, I'm beginning to like these headphones more than when I first heard them a few hours ago. I can already tell they do certain things better than the QC15, and I'm only starting my journey.

Edit 6: Never mind about the comfort. After a few hours, my ears hurt. Definitely gonna need those XL Memory Cushions.

I bought mine used, so they probably were burnt in. I haven't noticed any major differences in sound quality since I got them. They have been reported to have a long burn in process.
I had to buy the xl pads, they turn them from the most uncomfortable headphone I've used to the most comfortable.

YKYAMLW you spend the night watching the news about one of your favorite bands

It looks like Tom has left blink-182, possibly permanently

And I was really looking forwards to the new album...

YKYAMLW you know that stands for "you know you're a music lover when"... lol

Man, that list of songs I'm making for you is taking forever.

It doesn't have to be that long lol. Thank you for taking the time; you've been very helpful, and I've already found some new stuff I like.

YKYAAW you wish "The Rainbow Connection" was recorded better

YKYAAW you see this and laugh: http://www.businessinsider.com/headphones-as-we-know-them-will-soon-become-obsolete-2015-1

I mean, seriously? Nobody wants to have the inconvenience of not being able to charge their phone while listening to music. With this design, audio quality would drop; they'd be putting $2 DACs in their headphones (and what about IEMs?). Plus, the author seems to think that phones are the only way to listen to music. I doubt this will happen, ever. We might switch down to 2.5mm jacks, but even then, I doubt that'll happen for a long time.

YKYAAW you wanted to test headphones and iems and you end up with placing an order for a black hugo, ie800 ultrasone signature dj, fiio e12a, and think that you might want ultrasone edition 8 or 5 unlimited still.
first hand resoults, sennheiser urbanite xl were interesting sounding, the only thing that impressed me besides ultrasone signature dj and hd800 for big cans. i only tested more expensive options. I can only say that most mid endtry headphones were not amazing. sennheiser momentum sounded not bad, but my ears are bigger. urbanite xl sounded great for what they costed, but i was there to buy something expensive and excentrique.
i would recommend any day ultrasone signature dj to anyone in need of headphones for anything. they are just so amazing, the only thing that was an upgrade for my dj one pro, and not a sidegrade. hd800 were more of a side grade, because while they got better separation, better soundstage and micro details, the main sound was dull? i don't know, they sounded not that nice the timbre of things was a little off. ultrasone signature dj had the best sound of everything i tested so far. i think that i am going to go and try beyerdynamic T1 and edition 8 and 5 for a thing.

as far as iems go, i only tested ie800, they were the best iems i heard to date a bit harsh with some songs.

I personally disagree with this kind of jacks. It will affect the market value of headphones (resale), the likeliness to last long like what most good quality headphones can, and the flexibility to change DAC/amp and also daps.

Update on metal shtuff:

So I've found a few bands over the past week or so, and discovered more from other bands I already knew. Some I just found:
  1. Venom - Found this from The Foo Fighters' page on FB. Really liked the songs I listened to.
  2. Diamond Head - Listened to a few songs, found them pretty interesting; Venom my favorite so far, followed by...
  3. Killswitch Engage - Really like some of their stuff, found them when listening to Holy Diver by Dio.

Which brings me to the list of stuff I knew and am looking into more:

  1. Ronnie James Dio - Absolutely love everything I could find by him/with him in it. Heaven & Hell, one of his last bands, and Dio were particularly interesting. Probably my favorite overall of the stuff I've listed here.
  2. Anthrax - Listened to a few songs previously, but, along with Slayer, never really looked into. Found some cool songs, and will be looking into them more.
  3. Slayer
  4. Trivium

So, for metal, some of my favorites now seem to be Metallica, Pantera, Dio, Venom, Slipknot, and Black Sabbath. I do have to look into some of these more still (though Metallica, Sabbath, and Pantera have been favorites for a long time).

All very mainstream, traditional stuff. Just wait until you hear how much more awesome my underground metal playlist is!

(Sorry, I've been busy and haven't had much chance to work on it.)

No problem at all man. It doesn't have to be huge, and you can take as much time as you want on it. I really appreciate the fact that you'd even take the time to make the list; thank you very, very much for doing so.

YKYAAW and word that can be used to describe audio (warm, thin, high quality, etc) makes you think of Head-Fi

Anyone else catch themselves thinking of audio when they hear words like that? Or am I the only crazy one here?

A band who's a bit left-field on the metal front are King's X. Worth giving them a try - I hated this album the first time I heard it, but really came to love it after a few listens. They do benefit from being heard through something better than a laptop's speaker. And not as a YouTube clip.

The other day someone said to me that "CDs are going extinct". Which is partially true, because they're beginning to make cars without CD players and stuff. But that got me thinking... Will bands eventually stop making CDs?? That makes me sad because how will we get FLAC... In the Fratellis' most recent album, they only distributed CDs with their vinyl records. *But* on their website they have CD quality FLAC downloads (for purchase). I wonder if bands will start doing that (but having the physical CD is super cool though. With like the booklet and all that).

YKYAAW you're worried bands will stop making CDs and you don't get your 44.1 HZ FLAC.

Not anytime soon - probably not until a decade or three from now. Many bands and record labels are flocking to lossless digital music stores like Bandcamp and HDtracks, giving the market even wider selection. (Though I wish they would be more clear about which master was used.)
