WiiM Streamers Mini and Pro

The other difference, currently, is that the Pro is certified Roon-ready, and while the Plus is in the queue for that certification, there's no known ETA. That will make a difference to a minority of people, but to them, it'll be a big difference (i.e., a show-stopper).

Otherwise, if you're feeding your favorite DAC, unless they'll cost you the the same, there's no compelling reason to get a Plus over a Pro.
The Pro version has been Roon-ready certified since the June 30th FW update, per their web site. I have been using the Pro in my Roon based system for a couple of months now.

Hey folks, can anyone offer any inside info or rumors on the improvement of a PC/Mac app for the Wiim?

I have a mini and there hasn't been much progress on improving this app, and it's probably the only thing preventing me from picking up a higher version. Although I think the phone/tablet app is great I am looking for a computer-based equal counterpart.

Thanks for any insight!

Cheers!!

It’s been updated in the last week or so and while still not at the same level of the mobile app, it added settings cogs to the players to access some of the device settings.

If you use a M1 Mac then you can download the Wiim app and use it on your computer. Absolute game changer for me.

Thanks for that I will check it out haven't tried it in awhile as it wasn't improving.

Yes I have done that, while not ideal it is great that the M1 allows you to use many mobile apps

The situation I am trying to work around is I have an outdoor bar that I currently use the Mini and a very inexpensive Mini PC. In all honesty it's not very secure so I worry about things being stolen.

So having the Wiim Home app be a little closer to how good the mobile app is would be a great solution.

I know weird issue but was just checking if there were any word on a timeline for improving it.

Thanks for the answers! Appreciate it

Cheers!!

I never use the internal DAC. For external DAC connection I set the volume at 100%. No EQ. If you use EQ you need to lower the volume.
I also do not use the internal DAC but use the optical output to connect to my DAC . There is a max volume setting in WiiM which can be adjusted in steps of 1 from 0 to 100. I prefer that setting at 80.

Doing so you are triggering signal processing inside the WiiM and no longer have bit perfect streams.
That's correct, it is my understanding the only way to play bit perfect is to go to audio settings and set the fixed volume output to on and EQ off.
It is probably a good idea after any firmware update to cross check these settings to make sure those settings were kept.

All WiiM products have an internal microphone. The products' cases have a tiny orifice for that. WiiM claims they have the mic to sync/align streams when multiple WiiM units are used in a building. People with experience in signal synchronization state that doing it by listening is not the correct way to do it anyway, so they are concerned about privacy.
Is the Mic only on the remote or also on de Wiim pro plus device itself?

Two different mics with two different purposes - the one on the remote that you have to enable by keeping its button pressed is for Alexa voice control, while the tiny one on the WiiM itself is only used for synchronising the devices (as stated by WiiM themselves). Any privacy concerns are massively overplayed in my opinion - the concerns tend to come from those who think Facebook and voice assistants etc are constantly eavesdropping on their conversations which is demonstrably false.

So...I'm looking into these WIIM devices because I'm tired of the compromises with Mplayer into my Oppo 205 (interruptions, far from gapless, etc), which I used to get Qobuz to my home system thanks to their...ahem ..frustrating lack of supported platforms or even more frustrating lack of figuring out how to do a "Connect". But that's a whole other story for another thread.

In my case both my digital input and my analog input are superb. The digital would be the aforementioned Oppo 205 and the analog would be the awesome Audio Research MP1 analog multi-channel preamp. Considering this vinyage gem was built in the glorious era of SACD and DVD-Audio (best audio formats ever invented in my opinion), it can easily accommodate this device considering it has an unsurpassed THREE sets of multi-channel analog inputs.

So if I understand correctly, if I use either digital optical or coax into the 205, it will use it's (still!) state-of-the-art Sabre 9038 Pro DACs...while if I use analog line-in to the AR, it will obviously use the WIIM DAC--which even on the Pro Plus won't compare to the implementation on the Oppo. But considering I'd like to compare AQ, I'll need to get the Pro or the Pro Plus so I can use my good analog interconnects rather than the 3.5 out of the mini.

Are these assumptions correct? :)

I reckon your assumptions are correct. 🙂

I have a Wiim Pro, and a couple of Minis. The analogue output from the Mini is OK for non critical listening, Pro is better. Coax out from the Pro even into my budget iFi ZEN One dac, is superior to my ears.

Try BubbleUPnP instead of MConnect.
