alright, so i want a very good music player for the computer to go along with the av710 and ms-1 or er6i cans i'll be getting. i have an ipod, so i have all of my music in itunes (lame vbr -aps, when i get my new setup i'll do more abxing to see if it's still good enough/overkill for me). what is so great about foobar that makes so much of the audiophile community use it, apart from the customizability?

on that note, what are asio and kernel streaming? what's so great about them? how do they affect cpu usage?

looking around the hydrogen audio and neowin foobar customization threads, if i do go with the program, i'd like it to look this this:

how would i get it to look this way? what do i have to do with columns_ui etc. to get this layout?

thx as always,
Jack

btw, you'd better remember to add a headphone amp to your setup

kernal streaming bypasses kmixer (honestly, I can't tell the diff with my AV-710 > drHead > SHP895 setup). I don't think it will affect CPU usage though =P

Foobar's nice if you need DSPs like resampler, etc =P

you can always ask someone to zip up their foobar folder for you if you really like their setup... me... i combined learning how with a good fcs to start me off

ended up with this
http://jim7.home.insightbb.com/foobar/foobar3.png

before people ask me...
foo_uie_trackinfo (my trackinfo code is somewhere on the trackinfo plugin thread)
foo_uie_albumart
foo_uie_volume
foo_uie_albumlist (db tab)
tabbed panel stack
simple spectrum panel version (vis tab)
and a crapload of formatting

i would ask for his folder, but i can't find his post anymore.......... i guess i'll just need to spend more time looking, i don't even know his name on neowin/hydrogen, whichever it was

oh, yeah, and i will be getting an apheared-47 amp

anyway, what makes foobar so great?

edit: found him on neowin, sent a pm. if anyone wants his setup, i'll pass it on (with his permission, of course)

It should bypass, but does Kernel Streaming on Foobar2k do this? I can't prove it to do so. Maybe this is the reason you can't tell any difference!

What?
Have you tried ASIO plugin using one of these:

http://www.asio4all.com
http://www.asio2ks.de/

Well, not real ASIO, but it should be like Kernel Streaming (eg. bypass windows kmixer)..

Still, I can't prove, if you can bypass kmixer with ASIO plugin on foobar either.

do you have to manual download all the album covers and other pertinent data? sounds like a lot of work

http://thenexusnet.blogspot.com/ there's a program that can get most of the art.. some stuff still needs a trip to google image search or a scanner since it uses [i think] amazon

This is more than skins (since it adds more functionality), do people every put up their Foobar layout design for people to use just like you can download skins for other players?
