An earphone with 2 drivers (1 Dynamic driver and 1 BA driver) can be alot better then an earphone with 4 BA drivers.

Well, IEMs with 2 balanced armatures can already stand up to those with 3 or 4. The PFE232 is a well worthy competitor of the W4 and going to customs like the JH5 or UM marvel can already compete the W4s. 1 dynamic and 1 BA may not necessarily be better, but it could. The AKG K3003 has 2 BAs and 1 dynamic, and they are well above the W4s, even though I don't find them worth it. That being said, IEMs with 1 BA like the ER-4 or FI-BA-SS are more than enough to compete with those with more drivers, with the FI-BA-SS flatting out destroy the W4.

sounds good  but the AKG K3003 aim is for being neutral and cant ever be a bass heavy earphone especially compared to many other earphones.

No exactly true, there are people who consider the K3003 as being colored. I would say it has even more bass than the Westone 4, which has already a lot in my opinion. Only thing is that the K3003's bass takes on quality and quantity, which could be a nice touch. But then again, there is no true neutral IEM/headphone.

I didnt get the W4 due to lacking bass.

I don't know that I'm actually returning or changing out my W4's at this point but I have a few questions as I'm curious.  The 535 LTD's are the same body, cable and jack as the 425 and regular 535's, correct?  Are there iPhone 4S cases that fit the jack?

UM3X - does the jack fit a regular iPhone 4S case or is it more along the lines of the 535?  It's hard to tell from pictures. If the W4 fits really comfortably, would the UM3X fit just as nicely?

Yes, the SE425, 535 and 535 red share the same body, cable and jack. Any casing that looks like these should be able to fit http://www.techvide.com/media/2010/10/iphone-4-cases.jpg

T
hw UM3x utilizes a different jack from the 4, which won't fit as well.

perfect - thanks!

false information provided.  the UM3X has one of the smallest jacks I've ever seen! the w4 is actually bigger.

It's irrelevant if one is bigger or smaller than the other (what's bigger? length, mass?...), the question was about how they fitted on a headphone jack inside an iphone 4 case. In that perspective, the UM3X would be harder to fit due to its design (shorter but wider).

Misconception here. Westone 4 is longer, and slimmer, which is why it would fit on an iPhone 4 with a casing easier. The UM3x is boxier and may have problems if the casing is too thick.

That's what I thought from what few pictures I could find.  A cold is putting a damper on A/Bing the iem's I have. I'm going to jot down what I've noticed and I think in the end, I'm wondering if I should keep the 4's or if there's another iem that will give me sort of the "best of both worlds."  I'm not the OP but I'd rather not start a new thread.  IMO, the W4's mids are forward but not nearly as much as the 425's.

Shure 425 likes: isolation, soundstage height in classical music, depth of bass - upright bass and bass guitars sound very accurate, vocals - especially female classical,  instrument separation that more often than not gives a "wow" factor, all intruments sound pretty true. There are songs on the 425, especially classical, where I'm wow'd by instruments I'd never realized were there.  I plug in the 4's expecting the same and feel a little let down or like I really have to look for them where as on the 425 they just pop.

dislikes: a little too bright at times, cables are heavy and a love/hate relationship with the memory wire, the mids are a little too forward - sometimes the singer is right in my face, everything has a wide soundstage so it's not quite as recorded (to me) especially in jazz,  I fiddle a lot with the wire/earpieces, at times they are really engaging and at others flat.

Westone 4 likes: very comfortable, they do every genre pretty well, soundstage on classical.

dislikes: a little veiled/dark but not to the point of being annoying, sometimes a little flat, could be more detailed (or have more instrument separation) on classical, could have a little more bass. I honestly can't tell if there are times when I get distortion or if it's the recording but it happens more often then I'd like. There are times/songs where the bass can seem a little off/fake to me - I can't explain it.  I will do more listening - maybe it's the fluid in my ears.

I don't know where to go from here.  I tend to grab the 4's because of the comfort and running with them was a breeze.  I was still looking at the UM3X and fit alone leaves me a little leary of going to the 535's though I guess I could get a different cable. Are the stems the same between the UM3X and 4 or does the UM3X have a longer stem?  Thoughts from those who have/have had the 3 or an alternate?  Isolation is important.  Thank you :)
