Unveiled: Meet the HD 620S

Sounds very similar to the position I'm in! I've been working remotely since 2020 but I got laid off last fall, luckily got a job quickly as a contractor, and mid-April got converted to a full-time employee with benefits. Which is great and a big step up for me but now I have to commute downtown three days a week.

I miss my open backs and headphone amp.

I'm hopeful the 620s will allow me to enjoy music more in the office while also being affordable enough I won't obsess over something happening to it, and easy enough to drive over a dongle.

I might be crazy enough to justify something like a DCA E3 in theory but no way am I leaving a $2K headphone on my desk in an open floor office on the off chance it gets stolen.
Congrats on the gig! Indeed, the low(er) impedance was a factor so that it would play nice with a wider range of gear including dongles. I'm currently using the iFi Go Bar as I type this :)
Hello) Sennheiser/
1) At $149 for the 560S, it's a good value overall.
2) One of the advantages of the 560S is its low weight.
3) They say the bolts are falling out. But that's because the 560S has another drawback, more clamping force.

What did they do in 620S))
1) The price is 2 times higher.
2) The weight is much greater.
3) The pressing force is greater.

By reducing the clamping force, there would be no need to insert iron; the structure is already strong.
There is no iron and the price could not be raised so high.
And the weight would be less.
1) it sounds amazing
2) it has a more premium build
3) it's personal; the chassis is very well regarded for comfort, but like shoes, car seats, eye glasses, hats, belts, backpacks, etc, there is no one design that appeases 100% of customers (except pizza. we all love pizza).

We feel it outperforms most closed headphones, even those costing more by several factors. We hope you get to try it out for yourself so you can determine if you like how it fits and performs.

It’s possible and most likely that when the 620 gets used to it, more information appears, or perhaps the next revision comes out or the price drops, I’ll definitely try it.

Will the 560 also have this headband?

The HD 560S is not changing to this headband style. Thanks for the question!

When i started at my current job in a cube (after having an office previously) I kept it simple with an HD569 and Dragonfly Red. Really decent sounding and no fuss whatsoever.
In my previous job, I used also HD569, but I drove it from Monoprice DAC/Amp (I forget the model, but it was ~$100).
Excellent low-cost good-sound setup! Actually, I still own my HD569... I wonder if it makes sense to keep it once I get my HD620S

I say keep it. I love mine, i keep it for showing people what an affordable setup can do for sound quality. And on occasion i just listen to them for the fun of it. Plus if you sold it what would you get? the price of postage back? it's a keeper :)

I love my ZMF Bokeh, but it is quite big and heavy as far as headphones go (effectively the upper limit for me), and part of why I want the 620S is to have a closed-back that weighs less and has that Sennheiser sound that I love.

What will determine whether I add the 620S to my long-term collection or not are two things: how well they isolate (from outside noise) and what the treble response is like (whether it is too harsh, a problem with so many closed-backs).

For isolation; are you referring to with music playing or without? I definitely find many closed backs to not completely blacken out the outside noise until music is playing (even at low volume).
Treble response I think will help with different AMP/DACs too.

I'm gathering my thoughts together on them - as I have the 620S in for review on launch day. I'm diggin the aesthetics!

*Also, please do not ask me for impressions of them. I'm just lurking here for thoughts on what the community wants to know on them for when I do drop the review on launch day.

Lucky dog!

The more real-life photos I see the more I appreciate the understated look.

Agreed. The speckled cups remind me of the Empyrean. It's got this gritty, classy look...if that makes any sense!

I need to file for bankruptcy and call it a day lol.
we will have a homeless neighborhood for audiophiles who invested all their money in audio gear, and ended up on the streets (with TOTL sources, IEMs, headphones, etc.) :)

Edit: we'll just call it a street meetup...

My wife predicts that regularly (after every Audio purchase). Although in my case I will be surrounded by Mid-Fi gear.

I auditioned these at High End Munich.

The isolation was incredibly good. Definitely above average for a closed-back headphone.
Mid-bass was very bloated/boomy with electronic music.
Would only recommend these to classic/acoustic listeners, or jazz/rock without pronounced bass.
Or have an EQ ready to bring down that midbass.
