Sometimes you can try to be too clever for your own good... A Trinity story of what not to do.
Well lets start at the beginning, our first kickstarter. What a success that was, raised a big sum of ££’s (well for us it was) and we ended up with a great range of products. The Hyperion, Delta and Techne are truly great IEMs and our success is due to how well they were received.
Well as you know we like to listen to what customers say and change and adapt, so the Atlas was created off the back of customer demand/request. One of the things customers wanted was detachable cables, so in comes the MMCX connectors. Well that was something I wish we really had not done (Yes Brooko, you warned me), MMCX is just not up to the job of repeated removal and re-attaching of cables before something weakens, this does not apply to every single one but it was enough to make me go aaarrrggghhh and not repeat the same mistake (famous last words right).
So the demand was still there for a detachable cable system and we decided we would go 2 pin but in our own way with our own shielding and locator, we wanted the tolerances to be tight so that after repeated removal and re-fitting they would still seat securely. For the most part this worked well but we did have some issues on some and we have had to replace quite a few cables.
Then we get to the Master 4, in my mind a great sounding IEM. This IEM had the same 2 pin system we have just mentioned and for the most part had been tweaked enough to be better but not without flaws and again some cable replacements needed. Our biggest issue was the dam filters. The guy we used for making the filters and shells completely screwed up, first of all some filters had not been done right and on the gunmetal shells we have had some internal threads done wrong. The shell problem was spotted during production and we returned 200 shells to be scrapped and redone, sadly some slipped through, same with the filters. So we did the only thing we could do and fire him. We have now made 2000 more sets of filters (so we have spares) and can replace asap any that need replacing.
Having said all the above our warranty claim level has not been too high and any claims have been handled as fast as possible. Having said that any claim that could have been avoided is just not acceptable in our book.
So the question is what are we going to do about it, well thats simple, for once we are not going to follow the normal route, let me explain why. Cables that detach at the body are weakness waiting to fail , especially if you try to squeeze so much in a small package as we have.
We have been working on a new cable system that will detach at the Y-Split, thats right, the main body will be hard wired.....aaarrrggghhhh I hear you say, let me tell you why its better. All New Trinity IEMS will be easily serviceable , so we will start to offer a 2 year global warranty, the way the cable will be routed in the IEM body will add much greater strain relief and so reduce any cable failures, all cables will come with Silver plated single crystal OFC copper as standard!, by having the detachable section at the Y split you will be able to plug in-line our micro dac/amp and bluetooth plug in for when you need some power or when you just need to go wireless, and with 8-10 hour battery life will offer a great addition. Also you will be able to run a standard cable to your device or run balanced with a swap of a cable (supplied), also as you will have bought all the package once, as and when you wanted to up-grade to a different model you will have the option to just buy the IEMs and cable to the Y-split and save ££’s.
Master 6 and Hunter will have these revision put in place, some will love and some won't, those that don't, contact us and we will take care of you.
Now, the cable and the dac/amp are just one of the changes, we are introducing on all new models our dual voice coil driver, this will replace our current titanium version as the new dual voice coil will offer all the precision of the titanium but with a more natural and richer sound experience.
Also our shells will be manufactured very differently from this point on and will offer a super high precision finish with perfect shut lines.
So we are super excited about making these changes, very proud of all the stuff we have been doing in the back ground, we are making better sounding, better built and adding more tech to the mix, we should be patting ourselves on the back right? Nope, why? well because we didn't get it right the first time and thats not good enough, because you guys have almost become beta testers and thats not right either, the fact is that we don't want to read a single other post, comment or story how we did something so great and failed at some smaller details, details that matter, details that you guys have to live with every day you use one of our iems. Just down right unacceptable, end of story!
So what are we going to do about you lot?! You are the reason we are here, the reason we exist, the reason we can pay our bills and feed our kids, the reason we get so much love in this audio world, so we need to make amends, we need to put it all right and we need to do it now!
Now we have to work some of the details and we will give you more info soon enough, but for all Atlas, Vyrus, Sabre and Master 4 owners we will be offering a trade-in, free dac/amp or cash back or store credit kind of deal, but this will be a special deal just for you owners, we will offer you a deal so good you won't feel like you have been robbed.
Now I know some will be mad, some will be happy and others may just roll their eyes, but we have seen the issues, seen what needs to be done and put it into action, our unflinching promise is to do as right by all our customers as possible.
