The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Depends which one to use and what settings. I personally do not care about gapless since I`m using full album single file rips (FLAC) + cue sheet. With SU 1.3.3 @ flac-mode gapless doesn`t work. When set to All-mode it should work but probably has issues like stock FW since it is based off from 1.5.0.

1st try Sound Unlocked 1.3.3 and play with different settings from hidden bootup menu (recommended settings: flac-mode / iir off/ cpu default). SU 1.3.3 is kind of "reference" firmware soundwise and imho it is better than rockbox.

Rockbox has an even more neutral and sterile sound. I would try Sound Unlocked 1.3.3 first and try all the different gain settings. Sound Unlocked is based off of Mango (stock firmware), so it supports hi-res files.

Just searched for sound unlocked and can see a newer version (1.4?). Do you think 1.3.3 is a better bet?

1.4 is also very good but I personally (and some other members in this thread also) think 1.3.3 is littlebit better SQ wise.

The gapless issue will be a real pain, as all my music is ripped as individual tracks.

Oh well, will just have to hope it gets fixed.

1.3.3 has the smoothest and most effortless sound signature when compared to every stable firmware available. If you are having issues with brightness then that is the firmware I would recommend.

Yea, it has kind of smoothed highs region but not in a bad way - it sounds very clear, detailed and airy.
Just give it a try and set hidden settings to flac-only / iir off / cpu default... You probably wont be disappointed in that SQ

Just received my DX50...are the jacks supposed to be very loose? Nothing I plug in gives me a firm, secure connection.

no, they should be totally firm! Just to be sure, are You using standard 3.5mm jack connection not somekind of special smaller jack connection?

Yep, just a normal 3.5mm jack. Same goes with the USB. I bought a used unit and the seller said that it was about a year and a half old. Is it possible that time has worn away the jacks? Would iBasso be able to "repair" it?

I`ve had DX50 quite long already and no such issues with jack or usb. Seems just improper usage from previous owner. I`m sure iBasso will fix it but for how much, no idea.
Other option would be replacing those things or just resolder them firmly yourself, it`s not hard actually.

I agree that it feels slightly loose but it's just how it works.

if you rarely use line-out jack, try plugging it there to feel the grip and compare it to the most-used HO jack.
even though it feels loose,  I never have any issue with it.

Also, there are 3.5mm male jack from cheap brand headphones/earphones/IEMs that is slightly bigger than normal male jack you can found in your IEM right now. it can destroy your jack very fast.

you might want to avoid $2 Chinese earbuds with 3 channel rings in it's jack.. once you felt something is wrong when plugging it in, don't force it.
