The iBasso DX50 Thread - Latest firmware: 1.9.5 - June 30, 2016

Just listened to my DX100 again after the DX50 and the sound quality really shows!  If I didn't have the DX100 would rate the SQ of the DX50 above the Sony NZ1070 or any Android phone or iPhone.  It's a nice compromise in terms of battery life and portability.  Will carry the DX50 where I need longer playtimes or just want a lighter load :)

So, what are significant differences between Dx100 and dx50 in terms of sound quality? It is clear that iBasso needs to work on the firmware.

Thats what I have found.
It is really obvious with the JH13 FP - they sound flat and thin.

If there was no DX100 then no complaints but if I compare tracks between them then the DX50 lacks details, layering and the bass sounds bloated.  The DX100 brings out details that I would miss on the DX50.  But for the price the quality is really good, just need them to sort out the firmware now.

If we decide to give 10 points to Dx100's soundstage performance, how many point would we give to dx50?

+1

I'll wait for a few firmware updates and see how the SQ pans out...otherwise it may have to go to a new home

Is special tagging needed for the files? Songs in albums are listed all in alphabetical order instead of the way they should, about the only real complaint I have now.

Also even with FW 1.1.5, the ' in songs like Carl's Blues makes the song disappear.

Any advice? There is not much on the setting to go around this.

Btw, the dx50 fits perfectly into the pelican 1010 along with a pair of CIEMs.

I'll give it a 8, the indistinct layering shrinks the soundstage some.  Though for the size, power etc compromises had to be made somewhere.  Perhaps later firmwares will improve the sound...

Thank you for the response. I appreciate that.

I have a Dx100, I have ordered a dx50. I am looking forward to hear it!

NP, I don't have golden ears by any stretch.  I tried many earphones last year but I couldn't find any universals that could give me what I wanted to hear.  As comparison, I tried UE triplefi 10, SE535 LE, Sony EX1000, IE8 etc but it wasn't until I auditioned the customs that I found my perfect earphones.  I tried the JH and UE range and settled on the UE18 pros, the JH16 had too much bass for my tastes but it was like the previously veiled sound was lifted and I was suddenly hearing the music clearly :)
That's how I feel about the DX50 it is good but there's something that is lacking and listening the DX100 it's like a veil is lifted.  This is a really expensive hobby but I have also owned other DAPS and phones, the closest in SQ was the Sony NZ1070 and that had to be amped with a Ray Samuels SR71A to be acceptable.  The DX100 from last year and the UE18 made me satisfied.  The problem with this hobby is that we constantly want more :p

Out of topic, I thought there was no personalization options for UE RM model? You know the clear shells with black special faceplate. How come yours is like that?

You can get the UERM personalized, I think you just need to talk with a UE rep to get that done.
