The Fiio X5 Thread

  Hey

You could consider the new range of ATH-IM iems from Audio Technica. They feature removable cables and theres a whole range to fit your preferred sound at great price points. There are 2 dynamic models, the IM-50 & 70 which have impactful bass-centric sound but still very detailed...very similar to the SE215s you mentioned but IMO are in a totally different league. There are 4 ba models the IM01-04 that are single to quad drivers, each with a very unique signature.

I went with the ATH-IM02s, which to my ears sounded the best of the lot...The most detailed reproduction I've heard in an iem with a huge soundstage and fantastic imaging. The IM02's in particular are picky when it comes to pairing...but pair perfectly with the X5 and sound fantastic. Although I'd give it to the Shures when it comes to noise isolation.

Cheers

P.S. I also own the VSD3S and GR07, and since I got the IM02s I've not touched the Vsonics :frowning2:

Wow, thanks a lot. This really opened my eyes to see how many options are available out there. However, it seems like the IM05 is the only one I can afford right now. If I had the money, I really would like to try the IM01, IM02 and IM03. I might add them to my collection in the future. As of now, I guess I will settle with the MA750, which seems to be the best bang for the buck. Appreciate everyone for helping!

I have a question that might have been answered previously if so I missed it. I have a new ( got used but the were barely used) ATH -900x with less than 100 hours. With the X5 they sound tinney and very little base. I'm using FLAC files from HD tracks. Will the Audio-Technicas burn in or is this just a bad combo? I am a newbie. I can return the X5 but not the cans.

As I known, the ATH-900x is good at it's middle and treble but not bass.

Yes, the ATH-900X are light on bass - that is their signature and they are great at what they do, but some may perceive them as lacking bass

Nice. How do you compare its sound to the dacport?

That's a tough question to answer.  What headphone are you using with the Dacport?

Let's say a balanced armature iem.

Oh, good - the DACport has a fighting chance.  I'd say the the Dacport is a little warmer and just a little bit less transparent than the HA-1 - all else being equal, but I would think the HA-1's USB receiver has an advantage for not relying on USB power - depending on how noisy your laptop or PC is.

Mike

HA-1? So from what you are saying the 5 betters the dacport?

Oops! Since the the DACport is a USB receiver + DAC + amp, I thought you were asking how it compares to the HA-1. :D

I've never used the X5 as a USB receiver and I've only used its amp for about 20 minutes total. I only use Line Out or Coaxial Out, not. Headphone Out. That leaves me capable of comparing only the DACport's DAC with the the X5's DAC. The X5's PCM1792A DAC is far more transparent and resolving than the DACport LX (and thus, the DACport), but it's warmer, too (not to mention its ability to handle resolutions greater than 96kHz.) I really love the X5 DAC, especially with a neutral amp and bright headphones (to tame the HD800, for example,) without compromising resolution at all.

Rats, I was really hoping to see that 5800 file limit gone. I had guessed it to be a higher priority and I am sad to see it not addressed.

I love my X5 though!

Thanks for the addition of the lockscreen WITHOUT center button!

The amount of times the screen got activated started to really bother me, but now no more!
