My rack has now new guest smily_headphones1.gif

This is a beast. I tried it with HD570 in my office plugged between usb dac and headphone amp, and must say it made HD570 sound really awesome. This thing is a steal, it costs something around 100EUR, and does big magic! Currently I use it with loudspeakers to reduce room resonances and to compensate for weaker low frequencies.

It's Behringer FBQ3102 Ultragraph FBQ Pro

When my gf first saw it, she said: "it looks pretty, lots of lights" wink.gif

Oh I was looking at that same unit today. It could work as a low pass filter for my diy subwoofers while I could also apply some eq on my main speakers with it..

Do you hear any coloration in its sound?

It's an EQ, so yes whatever you set it to this will be the color you get biggrin.gif
When it's turned off it short circuits inputs with outputs, so sound is like there was no EQ in the path.
If you turn it on and put all sliders at zero, then sound is uncolored, i.e. any changes to FR are inaudible (or rather your ear wouldn't hear it).
However it is XLR device, that means it works on high levels, and you can use it in single ended mode with your hi-fi, but be aware that higher level of output will make noise audible.
When I sit 3 meters from speakers I don't care about that, because I can barely hear that noise, and it has to be ultimately quiet in the room, which is probably after 10PM, and I would probably turn EQ off anyways, not to disturb neighbors.

Bottom line, EQ is quite perfect. You can use its output directly to power your power-hungry headphones, and you will get really good sound quality, no distortion and no noise if headphones are really power-hungry (like Alpha Dog). I bet FBQ3102 has way more output power than probably most of headphone amps, and it never distorts, so that I could get my Alpha Dogs almost damage my hearing with too much bass, while SQ was still astounding biggrin.gif
