The Fiio X5 Thread

I had the exact same thing happen with mine. The screen was flipped, but after a restart it was back to normal.

it is because there are something wrong about the data stored in the  build in RAM of the IPS screen, so once you turn off the screen and them turn on again it back to normal.

we will try to fix it in the future by firmware upgrading.

Fiio can you make a sports armband.. i would love to use it for gym and running....

X5 is too heavy to carry when you are running. X1 will be more suitable for such situation.

+1 to the "cover.jpg" to a folder instead of embedding the .jpg to every music files. hope this will be implemented in the future.

Also kinda worried about the scrollwheel. I've seen many feedbacks that it is too loose and kinda flimsy. :/ Hope mine arrives next week.

I ran with the X5 in my pocket today! Too heavy my butt!!!!

You make the armband for it and I'm sure there would be a market for it in people who want to work out with it on them, it certainly isn't too heavy for me.

I just got my X5 in Australia, and doing some initial comparisons with my good old X3.

Sound wise, I found X3 and X5 is very different. X3 is a bit more lively and exciting, whereas X5 sounds cleaner but has far better 3D sound stage and imaging. It's almost like X3 makes any recordings sound energetic and in-your-face, whereas X5 makes bad recordings sound bad. An analogy may be X3 is like Grado and X5 is like Beyerdynamic, if you know what I mean.

One thing I found a bit disappointing is that X5 has a nice amp section but it still struggles with high impedance headphones like 3~600 ohm. Power output is only as good as USB bus powered headphone amps, not desktop amps with a huge power supply. It does make the headphones loud enough, but it becomes sloppy and thin when using high impedance headphones.

The interface is also not as good as I hoped. It's a glorified high-res version of X3. I wish it was better. I am annoyed that, as far as I know, I still can't choose Genre>Artist>Album, etc. If I choose a Genre, it simply plays every song in that Genre in alphabetical order, which is ridiculous and useless.

Not sure if it was reported earlier, but I once had one weird experience where the LCD screen was flipped like a mirror image. I restarted the X5 and it went back to normal again.

sorry, we have not plan to support Genre>Artist>Album, please understand that we can't satisfy everyone .

yes, the cover. jpg and folder.jpg will be supported in the future.

about the wheel, don't worry about it , it can last more than 100,000 round and it will not lost from X5 too !

I don't know if there is a difference from X5 to X5, or from the perception of one person to the next one. I personally love the scroll. It feels great and not "flimsy" at all.

+1, I thought it feels pretty nice too, different than an iPod obviously, but certainly don't see anything wrong with it

While I understand the concerns people have regarding the scroll wheel, Fiio has heard these concerns and James assures us that it has been thouroughly tested. I vote for putting that issue to rest until it is demonstrated to be an actual problem.

Question about preparing files for use on the X5: I plan on loading only FLAC files onto the X5 when I get one and I can either 1) re-rip my CDs with XLD or 2) use Auditri (see link) to convert my AIFF rips to FLAC -- is there any reason NOT to use Auditri to simply convert from AIFF to FLAC? It takes only five seconds to convert an album, but can take ten minutes to scan and rip using XLD. Ideas?

Thanks.

I am interested to know as well.

FLAC was not my major file format and I was happy with 192 or 320k MP3s. But X5 really make a difference.

I am glad that I bought a 64GB card

Volume is plenty high enough for me, I am at 75 out of 120 on my SE846's, and I leave it at 75 and control the volume with the E12 for my LCD-2s. what volume are other people listening to their X5's at?

I'm curious to know if we are connecting to amp, should we use normal earphone out or lineout?

I am connecting e17 with lineout which I think should be normal practice and volume on X5 wont have any effect, however equalizer still works.

I am also using line out w/ my E12 and controlling volume with the E12 as well.

Finally some good comments about the scroll wheel! I hope it's just different opinion of users than inconsistencies of X5. Will report asap once I got mine!
Thanks!
