I've tried both and the max. volume output is much lower with both. Got a feeling it's connected to the new software EQ.

Have you tried with the EQ on OFF?

Joe Bloggs: Should we be submitting bugs and feature requests to the bugzilla for the unreleased beta firmware, or wait until you release a stable version until we use the new bugzilla?

I have added a version 2.14 to the X3 bugzilla, so you may submit to it as long as you select the appropriate version. :)

I have my hands on an alpha firmware for the X3. Alas it really is an alpha feature-wise: no EQ, no high gain setting, some other menu items missing, system settings that are in Chinese no matter what language you select (and the language selection is also missing from the menu so the only way to select language is the language selection screen that comes up on the first boot-up after flashing). But it is using the new UI, and seems to be using the new mp3 decoding engine. And gapless really is gapless (tested with Pink Floyd's DSOTM, FLAC) Who knows, it might even play DSD

If anyone wants to try it, they can pm me for a download link. Please, no redistributing the alpha and only report bugs to me via pm.

Edit: just received an updated beta of the firmware with EQ (both software 5-band and hardware 2-band), complete menu in English (although I note that the tag for "idle power off" and "sleep" have been mixed up), language selection in menu... all in all I'd rate this as a solid "beta" worth trying out and I anticipate to be inundated by pm requests so here's a public link

Extract x3.fw into root folder of mSD card in X3 (that's formatted in FAT32), turn off X3, make sure X3 is adequately charged, hold down upper left menu button while pressing power key to start the update.

If things don't work out for you with the alpha here's the version 2.1 firmware to revert to

I'm opening a new version of firmware for this in the bugzilla
https://app.devzing.com/FiiO/bugzilla/

although I anticipate this version to remain current for only a week or two at most

Awesome, going to test during the weekend and report in bugzilla as possible.

Tested beta firmware and I can confirm that volume is lower from headphone out, but with E12 from line out it sounds same as before. So i guess there is something with controling amp section and there is no problem with decoding.

Volume is definitely lower ..used to high gain with volume from 18 to 30 max and with new fw ....high gain and vol at 45 ...in my estimation equal to 25 on old fw.

With eq ...volume definitely dip much lower and currently not using eq.

Hopefully when it is officially launched ...all this will be rectified.

The new colour scheme and UI is a plus from old version.

just installed it ................
1- more beautiful UI and more intuitive
2- moving forward and backward between songs is very fast now rather than the 3 sec delay
3-clearer and smoother mp3 sound !! ( there is a small probability that is placebo !!! but it sounds more clear to me right now !! )

4- there is now a 5 band eq ..... and it seems to sound ok
the bad thing :
1- lower volume ...that's for sure ....very low volume ( with and without eq ) non comparable to the previous firmware but again with more quality sound
beyersmile.png

2- ( a small one ) when i select BASS or TREBLE or other option..... i must press (play ) then +\ - instead of pressing + \ - alone in the previous firmware

that is for now ...and i will update soon .....................

 *** EDIT :
the 5 band EQ is applicable to the line out ( which is great ) ....... but the eq setting is hard and not very handy i wish that moving between bands is by forward\backward buttons and adjusting every band by +\ - buttons

the 5 band eq lower the volume very much !!!! i dislike that
