In my experience, it gets better clarity if you use a line out to a JDS labs c5 (setting the c5 to low gain), stronger bass too.

I have given up on stacks. Way too much hassle. And if I were to do a stack the C5 is way too low powered for me. According to their spec sheet 32mW into 32 ohm. Compare to the X3 at 270mW.

I think the only amp I would consider is something like a pico slim or similar sized amp for the X3 but the internal amp seems good as it.

Yes. I can't understand all the posters who don't even have the X3 yet and are already deciding that they need an external amp.

Has anyone done a full set of measurements / graphs on the X3?

Well... being able to drive headphones to certain loudness is one thing, to drive it to sound good is another. I guess they knew the amp section of the x3 isn't that impressive.

Previous statement still stands: how can you know you don't like it, if you haven't even listened to it?
And from the reviews so far it seems it's a more than decent amp.

I have an X3 and I decided I need an external amp. :)

The amp section of X3 is not that impressive in terms of sound. Also, having an external amp comes with other added benefits such as double the battery life!
