max DAC processing is 24/192 and it is automatically detected by the device. I use mainly FLAC or APE files

James,

After I updated my library some albums are grouped under "Unknown Album" in "Category". Those do show up properly in iTunes so I guess my files are missing some tags the X3 is relying on. I'd like to know what tags the X3 uses in defining an album. Thanks!

Could you upload the files to somewhere so we can download and see why it can't

PM'd you

how can a user use its full power of 24 bit 96khz playing DAC power? Can it be set manually on the settings or it will just automatically detect the sonic properties of the audio file?

The file is automatically detected, no need to set the bit depth, sample rate or anything. Just drag your files into your card or internal memory. I played 24/192, 24/96, 24/88.2, 16/44.1 files in FLAC with no problem.

how does the X3 stand against a 6th or 7th gen Rockboxed iPod classic in terms of sound?
thanks for your reply

it will depend on the file being played. you dont need to set anything. it will drive me nuts if it is manual bcos I cannot remember file bit rate....
I dont use ipod, sorry. Before AK100, I was using Cowon J3.

I agree with tomscy on how the typography could be improved! Heres a fiio x3 menu redesign with subjectively better typefaces that I made a few minutes ago. Hope the future UI might look something like this? Nice, really easy to read, easy on eyes, etc? :D

As a general principle of typography and visual design, italics (and oblique) is typically less reader friendly than the regular version of the font.

Brandon Grotesque would be an excellent legible sans serif typeface for the x3, this looks so much cleaner and more professional...

This is better, although are the thin strokes of the type as legible as some other choices at the actual size of the X3 display?

A black background and white text will save battery life compared to your example here.

Will it for this type of display? I don't know how TFT LCD works, but some displays are backlight driven. They are still using power with black or white, and may even be more efficient with white: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=fact-or-fiction-black-is

Interesting. Maybe we'll have to ask James himself if the black background saves energy on this display or not?

Either that, or just find out if TFT LCDs are backlit. From what I have read, seems likely that they are.

Does the X3 have an EQ? Or any sort of sound tweaking features like a Cowon?

You can only tune up and down for Bass and Treble, unlike Cowon which you have EQ presets that you can play around with (although some ppl are against EQ).

The only time I used the Treble setting was right after I changed my cable for my W4, Miles trumpet became too sharp and I had to tone down two level to get used to the sound. Now that I amp it, I no longer have the need to use that settings anymore.

Hey James,

When in July should we expect the X3 to hit the US?

I think the end of July because we can manufacture so many X3s in couples days, it will take about 40-45 days to finish the whole batch. but we will ship to Hong Kong, TaiWang and US first because that is what we

should done in June.

So sorry for the delay and plz understand I can't promise anything and that is just schedule.

not , in fact, even you turn off the displayer, the battery life only get about 15 to 30 mins longer. the total current consume is about 300mah, and the display only took 14mAh.

and not to talk that the TFT is not OLED or AMOLED so it can't save any power even the background is full black.
