So let me get this straight. The X1 is more for those with IEMs? Will others who don't use those need an amp? (headphones)

Sorry, I just don't understand all of these technical terms that everyone uses. >.<

depends on your headphones.

low impedence headphones should be fine.  virtually all daps can handle that

How about 32 ohms?

Your headphones should also have sensitivity rating of higher than 96 db/mw, otherwise it would not sound very good from a portable DAP. Hifiman HE-6  headphones have a low impedance of only 50 ohm, but their sensitivity of 83.5 db/mw is too low to sound good without an external amplifier.

If your phone can drive it, the x1 should drive it better. It has around 5 times the average power of a phone I'd say. Give or take

most inefficient headphones are othodynamic.... and the people who own them wont be trying to run them striaght from a dap

Nah, but look at something like k701

impendence is like 65 ohms.... i think thats it...too lazy to look it up.

Yeah, but it's like 94 dB/mW which is kind of low.

Then there's all the beyer/senny mid-fi high impedance stuff, which the x1 probably won't drive properly. Not that I know.

I'd say you shouldn't push it more than for example ultrasones offerings.

yeah the k701 has some funky specs.

105 dB/V doesn't seem so scary
