The 307 really benefits some simple EQ. Just say if interested.

I think they sound kinda disjointed without EQ, which is obvious compared to the LS.

Thank you for the offer.

However, I started with the data provided by "inner|fidelity", applied hand crafted parametric equalization curves to compensate for that, and ended up with a measured *very* smooth 1db plus/minus from 20hz to 20khz.

And I agree with you. With appropriate equalization they are *much* better. Pretty stunning, in fact.

Tools used:
EQ - miniDSP 2x4 with "2 Way crossover Advanced" plug-in
Measurement - REW
Microphone - calibrated UMIK-1

Can you please post a pic of your curve?

Of these replacement earpads, is either one made of real leather?

or

I'm guessing the latter is the one with real leather since the price is doubled.

Also your coupling solution for the measurement rig

Already taken down. But I believe the most appropriate description would be "primitive".

(And I know the technique is questionable. Believe me, I've considered it.)

Turned off one channel, pointed microphone at inside of left head-phone, about 1.5 inches away.

They are "ear-speakers", right?

So I measured it like a speaker.

Yeah, would expect coupling / damping issues would be appropriate to consider with the lower frequencies. But I was satisfied with that range and the "inner-fidelity" graphs showed no substantial problems there so I didn't sweat it.

Applies to just about any phone - no matter what people who haven't done their homework say, EQ done right improves not just balance but resolution. Usually this entails being able to take measurements to see where you're going.

Congrats. I'm sure you'll be plased with them. Let us know when they arrive. I love it when the stat effect kicks in for the first timers

Just pulled the trigger on a SRS-2107 system. Very exited to finally hear a STAX system even if it is only the basic one (we only take this step, no upgrades...I promise...he says to his terrified wallet...).

The basic Stax set-up is still superior to any other entry level dynamic headphone.
It's even better than many TOTL dynamic headphones.

You're better off with the "entry level" Stax than you are with, say, AKG Q701 or any of the Beyer DT880 or DT990 (for example).

:D
