What are you talking about? I have no stairs anywhere near me :dt880smile: But thanks for the complement. I actually recorded videos in case I need to make a review video, so it was actually a few hours.

That's my Ikea chair, where I sat and wonder what the heck I'm doing with my life :dt880smile:

Or listening to IEM. Mostly listening.

I was going to ask how you take those amazing photos. And then I remember you are a photographer IRL 😂

Stealing the arrangement of that vertical shot with the cable for my next reviews
hahah steal away, sir!

I always appreciate your compliments, brother. Thanks so much

Abso brilliant this.

It even has peq in one of the weirdly named terms 'magnitude response' under 'arbitrary response equaliser ' though I switched it off.

As @Joe Bloggs 's 'drx10k dynamics + special limiter' plugin sounded way better. Treble twang on the P8 and it's subbass effect became awesome r. Joe's realistic surround also pretty cool.

Hearing the classic https://songwhip.com/jethro-tull/thick-as-a-brick1972 and enjoying the Treble and bass dynamics as enhanced by the filters.

Plus that special limiter' seems to give the feel of say attaching the Fc6 dac - some analog lushness to some female vocals to my ears.

With rootlessjamesdsp and joebloggs magic on em, this dap hiby M300 has stepped up another level. Great value for money now. Am Mclovin it!

Hey Head-Fi community,

I recently preordered the Moondrop Golden Ages: 1979 after reading about them on Reddit and shared my thoughts in a video review (Link below). I was primarily interested in these TWS IEMs because of their planar magnetic drivers and LDAC support, and I wanted to share the gist of my findings with you all.
  1. Sound Quality: The sound quality of the Golden Ages is great for the price point.
  2. Sound Signature: It leans slightly warm or neutral, with a bass boost that can be adjusted using the EQ profiles in the Moondrop Link 2.0 app.
  3. Bass Performance: The bass is the standout feature, delivering a powerful and immersive experience.
  4. Sibilance and Shoutiness: There is zero sibilance or shoutiness, even at higher volumes.
  5. Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode: Moondrop has improved the noise cancellation and transparency mode compared to previous models.
  6. EQ: Three choices of EQ profiles in the Moondrop Link 2.0 app which I felt only affect the sub-bass and bass.
  7. Battery life: 3 hours and 45 minutes with LDAC (optimized for sound quality) and ANC on.
  8. Comparison to Apple AirPods Pro (2nd gen): While the Golden Ages sound great, the Apple AirPods Pro (2nd gen) still offer better sound quality, noise cancellation, and more features like adaptive transparency mode, wireless charging, Find My, personalized spatial audio with head tracking, etc.
  9. Comparison to Moondrop Aria 2: In terms of sound quality alone, the Moondrop Aria 2 with a dongle or FiiO BTR7 offers better sound quality than the Golden Ages.
Overall, the Moondrop Golden Ages: 1979 is a solid choice for an ANC TWS with good sound quality for the price. Feel free to ask me any questions or share your thoughts if you've also had a chance to try them out!

Is anyone picking up anything for the Aliexpress Anniversary sale?

I have the CCA Trio on the way but I'm not sure if I should get an Artti R1. Does anyone know if the R1 is an upgrade over the Trio or would it be more of a side grade?

Might pick up an EPZ Q1 Pro just as a beater based on TDM's review
Copper cable variants and the Tansio Mirai X. For better or worse, I was able to use the “AEUS80”, $80 coupon code.

Example of "that's so wrong but feels so right" aka guilty pleasure
The scarlet mini? Oh no, my friend, it does not feel so right :dt880smile: It's alright. I'm sure people with stronger heart than me would like this one.

The maestro mini sounds pretty normal, actually. It does not even sound a lot more "bassy" or "bloomy" than usual. But every kick has a powerful "snap" that is quite satisfying. I used it for orchestral music quite a bit.

Edit: I have been using the snowy night dongle 90% of the time in the last few days, either with the R3II or an old Android phone. It made me wonder whether I have been too harsh on the old dongles in my drawers like the FiiO KA3.

Nope. With the pairing of Symphonium meteor, the difference was not slightly but apparent. The KA3 feels significantly flatter in terms of imaging, the the upper midrange has a sandpapery, edgy presentation to it.

The snowy night also sounds noticeably different from the DX300 with amp 11 mk1. The iBasso has a bloomy, slight thicker lower frequencies, whilst the snowy night is more nimble. This presentation works better with bassy IEMs like the FF pairs and the Symphonium meteor, making the stage a bit more open and 3D.

My take aways: (1) I need to change the amp card on my iBasso (2) I want to try more dongles 💸

👍🏻

Thanks for the rec! To clarify, you were writing about James Fung's RootlessJamesDSP on the play store when it comes to 'arbitrary response equalizer' (with whom I'm a close friend) and my DRX10K dynamics plugin when it comes to the dynamics changes, with the added "spectral limiter" which acts kind of like a tube overdrive pedal (though the principles are completely different)

Ordered the Himalaya and Kelci so far, maybe I'll get the Origin and TS-316 by the end of the month, not sure yet.

Oh yes yes.
For those who were confused. Load 'Shizuku' from Play store onto Hiby M300. Then follow instructions on Shizuku to fire up James Fung's RootlessJamesDSP. Then load up JoeBloggs's dynamics plugin onto that. From then on, it sort of becomes one item: rootlessjamesDSP, that's to be tinkered. For a newbie like me, Joe's dynamic plugin with that limiter is easy to tweak.
More experienced ones can start playing with RootlessJamesDSP (RJD) settings - which is where I stumbled on the 'arbirtary response' with squiggraphs thing. And there are other stuff on that RJD that I don't understand yet. Will have to google/understand/tweak. For now, am on Joe's dynamics which creates very v noticeable (and pleasurable) difference to the soundscape.

Great job and much thanks Joe Bloggs!
