I carefully listened to a 24/192 Vivaldi file just before upgrading from FW 1.18 --> 1.25.  I'm not sure, but think there was an improvement in SQ.  Mid range and trebles sounded clearer and more detailed, warmer, more spacious.  I'd say the improved SQ, if it was there at all, was very subtle.

That's nice to hear. I used my AK120 II today (with the updated FW), and I didn't notice any positive changes. Still, my listening with both players were done on the go, not exactly optimum conditions for detailed scrutiny. At the least, the sound hasn't been negatively impacted; of course, any improvements will be greatly welcome.

Cracking sound can be heard when changing song after the upgrade

I am using ALAC files and some DSD and don't have this issue after upgrade.

What I mean is. Ciems are not a good way to really hear his God or bad or changes a firmware is. A really good set of flagship headphones like the hd800 or equivalent is needed. A d for accurate imaging speakers are needed. As I use the ak240 with ciems. I ca hear little changes other than eq
Although good or bad music is easy to hear it's the fine details some claim to hear I just do not.

X2.. I just upgraded and I am not sure if there are any SQ changes.. sound the same to me..tested with JH Angie

Mine is a stock ak240, I'm listening to it right now from the balanced out to my custom roxannes, if I press the side back or forward button, or on screen button, there is an audible soft pop, happens on all file types. doesn't worry me but its most definitely there. I don't recall if it did this prior to the update. I am however still thinking the update has improved overall sound quality.

I don't have any pop noises when changing tracks after the update, everything seems to be working fine. I have a 240ss.

Interesting, unless I've missed one, so far all the " no pops" are ss, gold or RWAK. I'm still listening to my stock 240 and just reconfirmed, press and there is a click/pop in the earpiece, slightly delayed after the press.

I'm still running 1.15 wondering if its worth upgrading? For me, its only the SQ that counts.

Same here, wonder if anyone has upgraded to 1.25 directly from 1.15. I have tried out 1.16 & 1.18, and 1.15's sound is simply the best - to the extent that I was willing to part with my AK240 for a month just for it to be reversed back to 1.15. I have seen split opinions on 1.25's SQ (as usual) but don't think I have come across anyone comparing 1.25 to 1.15, so it will be great if someone does.

I'm using a stock AK240 myself, but I don't hear this soft pop when changing tracks (via the side or on-screen buttons). Tried them with my K10, W500 and Tenore with FLAC, WAV and MP3 files.

There were a few comments, including mine, that 1.18 had tighter, less muddy bass response.  Well worth upgrading IMHO.

  It also happens to AK120II.

With my stock AK240, I have no pops or anything adverse.  Everything works well. Seems like a good improvement to me, I think the UI is easier to use (I don't mind that there are no longer any letters for scrolling -- the letters were imprecise anyway), and I think the sound is improved.  But it's hard to tell with the sound since the the volume numbers are different and the slightest increase in volume will make it seem to sound better.

As for general scrolling, they've removed the alphabet indicators on the right side of the screen. Even though they were small, it still allowed me to get a specific spot, most of the time, with less scrolling. That will definitely be missed.

How does one scroll songs and artists now?  Still in alphabetical order and just go down the list? Is there a search bar, I don't remember seeing one on 1.15.
