The Astell & Kern AK120

Audioenbi didn't you answer your own question with your friends rips of 24/88 vs the actual direct rip from iso and conversion to DSD (no loss in quality at all).
I got to listen to it more carefully. I wanted to compare Peter Gabriel so in vinyl, DSD and redbook today and figure it out now critically but didn't happen :frowning2:

I wanted to know how the ak120 converts to pcm as at the end it comes down to how the DSD is converted.

Can you recommend / share which software for convert SACD ISO to DSF ?
Thanks : )

http://www.mediafire.com/download/d6yu2t1x1p85gci/SACD+Extract+0.3.6.zip

Depending on if your ISO is DSD or DST you drag and drop the desired ISO into one of these folders. I use Foobar to determine file type it is by playing back the ISO files in foobar first. Then you drag and drop to the corresponding folder (which you extract from the link above). So if foobar reads the file as DSD drag and drop to the DSD folder. If its DST drag and drop to DST. Then you open up the corresponding folder and run the bat file which will execute the conversion for you and create a new folder with the DSD files all separated. once this is done you just drag and drop to your AK120 and you have quality music on the go! :).

If you want you can find the latest extractor 0.3.7 I think and just replace 0.3.6 extractors in the DSD and DST folder. Basically follow what I said above and you'll be done in minutes. Cheers :).

I tried the AK100 with the SE535R n Klipsch X10, though the sales said the X10 is better I found the Shure more of what I like; would it possibly imply that I might like the SE846 more than IE800? Though I had a bit of problem putting on the Shure... Lol

Since you are in HK you should just go to one of those headphone specialist shops in Mongkok and try everything. AK120 pairs well with most IEMs so you can't go wrong as long as you like what you are hearing in demos. It is really a luxury not many headfiers elsewhere enjoy. Of course, slowly (or quickly) you will be more sure what sound you really enjoy and you will keep upgrading and sidegrading. IE800 and SE846 are nice choices but if you are spending immediately in the upper price bracket, you owe yourself to try those really excellent ones like Tralucent's or Fitear's, and maybe customs from JH, UM, Westone, Fitear too. All these are readily available for demos and purchase/order in Hong Kong.

... only on a Windows machine. Everyone else must copy the hex file to the root of the file system.

This is actually even more straight forward than using the iriver windows software....

Wow, that's crazy. In the US it's a 15% difference. Are the IE800 less or the JH16's more?
Thanks,
Sam

One thing that keeps happening, and that never happened once with 1.00, is that half the time when the unit is powered up it won't see one of the two SD cards, which incidentally are exactly the same - Sandisk 64gb. Shutting it down and turning it on again seems to be a sort of fix, but it's a PITA.
