I am happy with just one pair to mod, but I want to take things further. I will be dying my modded Sennheiser Flat pads black tonight and hopefully ordering supplies for my recable soon. Then this coming weekend I will hopefully be looking into getting some new wood (Padauk and Jatoba depending on minimum lengths). I also need a new 2-3/4' hole saw so I can make slip on shells, Bilavideo style. I could continue with simple shells like I have been doing, but I want to try something new.
I also still haven't been able to find a reasonably priced, used Beyer headband yet which has annoyed me. Seemingly tons of people have them, but apparently no one has disliked them enough to sell or has extras. The search continues.
I actually can get Walnut, maybe I will try (depending on prices). Looks like the place sells these woods for ~$5-7/foot. I need to figure out what minimum lengths they will sell, if I can't get 1ft lengths, I am sunk. If I can get 1 foot lengths of the 3 woods I mentioned for less than $30, I would be very happy. Already have a lot into this project, although the tools will be used again for other things in the future, they are an investment.
I am also curious what kind of hole saws people are using. My problem is whether to use 4/4 or 5/4 thick wood. I used 4/4 for my original Oak cups, but I like the deeper cups more. The issue is all my current hole saws can't get all the way through a 5/4 piece of wood. This means I need to turn my board around and even with a centering hole, they don't match up well enough and I wind up sanding off the material from the second cut (~3/16"). I am on the lookout for 2-3/8" hole saws that will cut deeper than 1" (deep enough to cut at least 5/4 thick boards). The outer cut is my only issue, with the slip on shells I plan on making, I can use my 2" saws I already have and I have Forsner bits I can use to drill the inner holes.
SR60 is really bad when need lots upgrades ? Anyone make measuring after mod ? This is really upgrade or only funn ?
Its fun!! It makes them sound better and gives one a sense of "I made that happen"...speaking of making it happen check these out..
Introducing The " BilaGradoeclein 4.0 " special edition headphones
I never got 4.0 before today...LOL.
Thats using a liberated driver though, correct? At this point, I am not sure if I want to risk trashing a driver to pull them free.
Al, I have seen some of the pics you have posted of your Jatoba rings, but do you have better close up pictures of any of them? I am curious what the finished wood looks like on the Grados. Thanks!
