Hi Everyone,

We're coming back...

The last Metro Detroit Head-Fi Meet in September 2014 in Troy, Michigan was a tremendous success!

Many friendships were made, equipment purchased, and connections built among this group of perfect strangers. For impressions and pics, see the Impressions thread.

Individuals from all over Michigan from Flint to Lambertville and from Sterling Heights to Holland attended the Troy Meet. Because of the response that we received from all parts of southern Michigan, we're moving the spring 2015 meet to Ann Arbor!

Not only are we moving the meet to A2, Overture Audio will be hosting the event. For more on Overture, please visit their website here. This meet will be bigger and better than the last. We will be working with some vendors in an attempt to involve the manufacturing community at the Ann Arbor meet. Look out...there may be speakers there also!

Because of previous commitments, however,I will not be taking the lead role in organizing this meet. Instead, kayandjohn (John), an attendee at the Troy Meet has stepped up to organize the event. He and I have been in communication over the past several months and I am confident he will do a fantastic job! I will assist him with promotional materials and lessons learned from organizing the Troy Meet.

Date and Time:

March 14, 2015
11AM - 4PM

Cost:

Free

Location:

Overture Audio
2460 W. Stadium Blvd.

Main Contact:

John - kayandjohn

Other Event Notes:

1. kayandjohn will contact the pre-registered attendees to get the Name, Address, Email, Contact number the week before the Meet, and will respond with the venue details.

2. At the meet, you would be required to provide a valid photo id when registering at the registration table. Your valid photo ID will be cross checked with the details provided prior to the meet.

3. You should bring an extension cord or power strip if you can (along with other cables necessary for your setup). Don't forget to bring your source as well as amplification.

4. Please be careful and respect other members properties, ask before you pull a phone out of a plug – some amps if they are not powered down before inserting or pulling out a jack have the potential to blow. Again be very careful.

5. Be on the watch out for power cords and headphone cable on the floor and tables, you can easily knock over equipment, or hurt yourself – if this is your first meet be weary the floor will be littered with cable.

6. Please restrict consumption of food or drinks to the designated place ONLY and place all trash in the plastic bags provided. PLEASE also wash your hands if it is dirty before touching anything.

7. No wet hair, or put anything in their hair at all (e.g. wax, gel, mousse etc) (Will be refused entry). Strong aftershave or deodorants are also not good. Also, clean in and around your ears. Nobody wants their cans covered with earwax.

8. No need to panic or spoil the mood (it's unlikely I'll run off with your $10k amp) - but leaving keys, wallets or expensive IEMs unattended might not be a good idea.

9. You must wear the name tag at all times.

Finally:

Space will be limited and we anticipate a full meet so register early. To register, please PM kayandjohn here.

We hope to see you there!

First,...

Thank you, zabzaf, for getting a regular southern Michigan meet started, for moving this particular meet to Ann Arbor, and for designating me as the lead for this particular meet due to your previous commitment.

Second..

I will start a running list of those planning to attend and equipment they hope to bring, and keep it updated.  It will be on this thread in the next post, which I will reserve.

Third...

I appreciate and will take advantage of all offers of help... I have several so far, and I invite more.  If you are interested in not only attending but helping the meet happen, please send me a PM.

Fourth...

Overture Audio is a great venue.  Keith Moorman, their owner, has been working to invite head-fi.org founder Jude and headphone manufacturer representatives on that date.  The place is more living room than store, with a large central area and several rooms.  Their headphones include Grados (they were the ones that got me hooked on Grados... I bought my first ones there and I'm now up to 12!), HiFiMAN, NAD, and (drum roll, please)... Abyss!  I heard my only Abyss there!  They are a local small business that has been active for 25 years.  Here is their website:  http://overture-audio.com/  They are conveniently reached from Exit 172 (Jackson Road Exit) off of I-94 in Ann Arbor.

Here is their living room:

sorry none for sale right now :)

I also have a magni/modi stack but I'm not sure if there would be any interest since they're very entry level

Also I don't know if IEMs are commonly brought to meets (maybe if people bring their own tips?) but I have a Etymotic ER6iand ER4S if anyones interested

Are Hot Dogs made by MrSpeakers, like Mad Dogs??

I'm bringing an AKG K3003i IEM. Sometimes folks bring a supply of tips when they bring their IEMs.  Or people can bring their own. Or wash in dishwater!

Mad Dogs? Did you have them in Troy in September? I don't recall.

Mad Dogs? Did you have them in Troy in September? I don't recall.

Ha no. I traded my Takstar with AD2000 drivers for them, just to try something new. I am going to be putting them up for sale soon to fund the W5000 project I'm starting. I have a few changes I foresee in my inventory so I will definitely have to update this thread on what I'm bringing before the meet actually gets here.

I like to buy, sell, and trade to try new things pretty often so I know that what I have is what I really want. Eventually I will have a perfect inventory. I know that 2 headphones I will have to have are the Beyer T1 and Audio Technica ES10. I will be buying those again at some point.

zach915m has informed me that he plans to attend, along with his ZMF headphones.  YAY!  Included in the list above.

Dec 5, 2014 at 12:34 PM Post #14 of 259
Count me in for the next meet. I have made a few additions to my setup since the last meet, so here is the list of items that I will be bringing.

  1. Sennheiser HD650 (HP)
  2. Sennheiser Momentum On-Ear (HP)
  3. Shure SE535 (IEM)
  4. Shure SE210 (IEM)
  5. Sony XBA-4 (IEM)
  6. Shiit Audio Bifrost (DAC)
  7. Shiit Audio Valhalla 2 (AMP)
  8. Schiit Audio Fulla (DAC/AMP)

This time around I will be using my Surface Pro as the audio source so I will not bring the beast of a PC I had last time. That will free up space for at least 2 more people
dt880smile.png
.

I am also planning on making a few DIY cables, but those haven't materialized at this time so no commitments with those.

See you there!
-Tim
