Sony h.ear on MDR-100AAP - $199 'Hi-Res Audio' Over-Ear Headphones

Anything similar but with a more forward midrange (eg. a W-shaped sound?)? K553?

I thought the 100AAP sounded a bit like an Audio-Technica IM70 without forward mids. The latter has a W-shaped signature which sounds very good with vocals.

How forward do you want them? The artist shouldn't be screaming at you xD

The IM70 had a reputation for being "organic" and natural-sounding. Sadly my pair broke...

I actually found the 545 a bit too bright for my taste but yeah, very articulate and clean, very different from these Sony's. I wanted a commuting headphone and for that I found the sound a bit too thin and lean. Also just a bit too much treble energy for classical. Edit, I just realized we are talking about the 553, oops. The 2 are supposed to be pretty similar though.

Sony Korea just sent me a free headphone stand featuring Korean singer IU for my MDR-100AAP.

Shame on Best Buy Canada! Says "All Sony headphones on sale" for Black Friday and they're still 229$!

And I'm not considering going in-store because my local Best Buy has poor stock management and only had the 100AAP on display but not for sale last week.

Hey guys.
I've decided to sell my 100AAP's.  Gotta save up for the Fostex x Massdrop TH-X00.

Don't come trying to us if the massdrop pair are average at best.

Everyone knows the 100AAP's are above average for the price.

Don't worry, I won't!

I heard the TH-900's at the San Diego meet and really liked them except for their rather sharp sounding upper mid/lower treble region.

But supposedly, that has been tamed on the TH-X00.  We shall see...

It's all in personal experiences. I think they are ok for their price. The best thing they have is not even related to sound... (I.e. Comfort)

I like their sound a good bit more than the MDR-1A, myself, but maybe that's just me. . .

Yesterday I just ordered a HD 598. It was on amazon for approx 98$. Couldn't restrain myself.

Well I was seriously considering mdr100aap. But before spending 200$ I wanted to compare it firsthand with some other pair between 200-300 $. Like beyerdynamic t51p, m50x, Fidelio x2. Etc....

I actually ordered koss ksc75 beforehand. After that I got this offer. And I just went for it. The sad thing is I couldn't cancel the loss too. In India amazon has a bad reputation of refunding if the product is from third party retailer and is not amazon certified.

Looking forward to the 598. Will arrive by Wednesday I hope.

I am especially interested in Fidelio x2. Will give them a try quite soon.
