Shure SE846 Impressions Thread

Decided to order the iBasso d-zero Mk2.  It's portable and has a low impedance output.  Anyone have input on how it does with the se846?

I just looked up these FiiO products and they all say minimum recommended impedance is 16 ohms.

I'd like to know what other portable DAC to replace my e07k with to get the most out of these earphones, not having much luck on the interwebz :frowning2:

I'm using this with SE846. Sounds great! I didn't turn the high gain though... using low gain around 30-40% volume level on the amp.

Unfortunately, it is because of the low impedance of the 8s that I have found that it needs a strong dedicated amplifier to give the bass impact to the 8s.

Red Wine Audio's modification to the AK240 is specifically designed to boost the rail capacitors and power for the bass of low impedance IEMs. The following is the hyperlink to Red Wine Audio's AK240 modification with a more detailed explaination: http://redwineaudio.com/mods/rwak240.

I have listened to the 8s straight out of a DAP and with several balanced amplifiers and the improvement with an amp is striking.

werd agreed I personally use the cmoy amp the one that uses an altoid case with the bass booster and man does it really give the bass some rumble

When you say "low gain", do you mean it's set to 0dB?

Even with a boost of the bass to 4, I still feel like they're bass lacking.  Definitely not living up to all the rave I heard these iem's low end.  I mean, I can tell the definition is good, it's just too recessed.  This is what's making think the e07k is not good for it (i hope).

I'm not a bass-head, I just like some umph.  That's why I choose these iem's.

I hope the iBasso mk2 I just ordered is what I need.  $1k earphones should not have disappointment!

Are you sure you have a good seal/isolation? They're easily challenging (if not beating) my LCD-2 in that department.

Yup, good seal.  Can't hear anything around me when they're on.

You would flip over the base on the K10.

If that's the case, I'll steer clear. I use the blue filters and Westone foams which mitigate the bass a tad versus say the blacks and silicones. Any more bass and it would just swallow up the rest of the spectrum.

Sometimes enough is enough, right?

It's one of those things where as much as I like it, it becomes hard to listen to certain genres. That thunderous bass is amazing but if I'm not listening to music intended for it then it sounds weird.
