I agree. Have owned the ie800 before the SE846 and taking Daniel's comparison of the AKG 3003 to the SE846 as gospel, I would say the SE846 is the best of the three. I think the ie800 is a close second for sound but with proprietary eartips and fixed cables (which still mystifies me coming from the ie80) the SE846 is the best choice.

I compared IE800 and 846.I decided to sell 846.I loved IE800 more.It is completely gratification.

It's kind of understood that the RE-400 is a great iem and a massively huge bang for the buck.  RE-600 not so much.  And while the 846 is awesome, punting my LCD-3 out the door good, it's not a bargain

Well actually, (another way to look at it is) if the 846 is the reason you are selling the LCD-3, then the 846 is a bargain for you.

I bought 846 some months back out of compulsion as my 2 customs fit was bad when i received it. However after bringing back i regretted as i prefer my red 535 more as i thought it was dark. since then it had been sitting place at one corner of the store room. Was at jaben yesterday and saw that they brought in Moon Audio Black Dragon and silver dragon, i remember Jude's 846 was paired with black dragon and it was quite a good review.

I tried it with 846 there and was surprised with what i heard. the sound stage is wider and base much tighter.

when back to jaben today, got a second black dragon to pair with my Rooth LS 8+..  Good stuff

regards

There are as many opinions as there are pairs of ears in the world. I am glad you are as satisfied with your ie800s as I am with my SE846s. Happy listening.

Thanks.Same to you.

This assumes the LCD-3 is worth the $2000 it costs.  Pro tip... it's not

We're talking about two different things. It sounds like you're talking about the value of an individual item and I'm talking about your overall budget. If you replace a $2000 item with a $1000 item then you saved yourself the difference (or whatever you can get for the LCD-3).

I'm playing The Beatles' Sgt. Peppers, the 2009, 24 bit remaster, for the first time on the SE846 with the HM901 and I had to say that's a huge improvement from what I heard before, that means a lot talking about a recording that I know by memory. I had the feel of a slight veil begin removed, a lot of detail but what really impressed me is the micro dynamics on the voices, so I can realize that there was so much more expressiveness on the vocal performances that I used to think. Also for this remaster they add more bass directly from the source tapes so it shines on the Shure's (I read that they restored the bass level to what originally was intended but finally moderated to avoid skips from the needle).

Looking to get the se846, is the sub bass less bloated and overwhelming than the ie800? The bass on the sony mdr 7520 is very deep and impactful, but not bloated. It's why I can stand it. I heard there can sometimes be bass bloat on the ie800.
