Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

Errr.... I just got an email from Headroom saying that there's now going to be a 1-2 week wait for the HD650's... Maybe I'll just cancel my order and place an order for those Audio-Technicia W1000x I've been wanting to try instead...

I know.. I'm impatient. lol. I like to keep my "one new headphone a week" streak going.

Ha a ripoff? Best not even pay attention to the HD800, but then again we're not supposed to pay attention to prices are we? Well, I consider the 650s quite a bargain since I prefer them to the 800. Works well for me!

I've heard the HD800 several times, and would gladly begrudgingly pay 1.5k for it.
350+42 shipping with crappy exchange rate: 490 shipped to Aus. 10 dollars less than buying locally.
Seems like the HD600 is the same or higher price than the HD650. Why are their prices so high compared to AKG K701 and beyerdynamic DT880?

Companies price their headphones how they wish.  The Senn HD600/650 have always been more pricey than the Beyers and AKG's.  A considerable portion of the post count here is dedicated to the reasonableness in pricing of headphones.  Differing opinions abound.

The HD600's can always be gotten at a cheaper price than the HD650's.  I got my HD600's recently from HeadRoom for $290.  OTOH, I paid $375 for my HD650's off Amazon.

I got one recently and I am discovering bass on headphones. They are great headphones, though I do not have much to compare them to. I will pour more appreciation once I get these burnt in and a decent headphone amp (am looking at protector). Currently running them on hp out of my tube pre-amp and hp out of hk 6550.
hk 6550 seems to have more slam but maybe the hp out of pre is not being used optimally. Loudness level of speakers go up when I pull out the headphones.

I just purchased HD650 from J&R for $330 shipped, can't wait for them to get here. They're currently out of stock, they will receive another shipment in 10-14 days.

Update: Just got shipped out. Guess they just received a shipment.

That was fast! Did you just call in to order at that price?

btw: Any chance you know what state they ship the headphones from?

Yea I called it in. I called about 2 weeks ago and they said it would be $350 with free shipping, but then I read somewhere on the forum that they would sell it for $319 so when I called them they said it would 319 + shipping which would come out to 350. I argued that they just charge shipping to bring the total to $350 so he lowered the price to 330 shipped.

The order is being shipped from MASPETH, NY. Will take a week for me to receive them here in California.

The HD650's are the best all around sounding headphone IMHO.  I was a Grado man for 10 years - started with the SR80, then the SR325i, then the RS-1.  While I could appreciate the signature sound of the Grados, I always felt that they were too "honky" or "barky" sounding.  I bought my 650s about 3 years ago for $325, along with a Cardas cable for another $165.  After that, I never looked back.  For me, the 650's have been the perfect headphone in every regard.  BTW, I was able to sell the RS-1's on eBay for a very good price
