After reading many many reviews, I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the Magni/Modi combo for my HD 650 in a few weeks.
Do you guys know how well this amp/dac combo pairs with other headphones, specifically the HiFiMan HE-500 or the LCD's just in case I want to change headphones in the future? I enjoy good treble definition/clarity.
I struggled with this decision too trying to chose between the Magni/Modi or O2/ODAC for my 650's as it was really a 50/50 decision. In the end i built an O2 with some tweaks, and an ODAC in separate enclosures connected via RCAs. They do sound great but its just, cant put my finger on it, like its only 8/10ths of what the headphones are capable of. I'm seriously considering a Bottlehead crack now for the 650's, and use the O2 to drive my Grados. Had i had the opportunity to try the setup before hand i would'nt have bought either and saved up for something better.
Having said that i've never heard the Bottlehead, or anything better so maybe i'm chasing a pipe dream.

Hi guys,
Just got myself some new Senn HD650's and a Lehmann Black Cube Linear amp.
How long do the 650's need to run in? They sound a little bass light at the moment and lacking a little punch.
I'm only running them from a Sony 790 blu ray player and some freebie RCA interconnects as I've spent this months budget on the can's and amp.
Hoping to get an Arcam rDAC and connect them to my PC eventually
Cheers
Mark

I have seen some objective data that suggests a slight change after about 100 hours and I found them to 'relax ' more after a similar amount if time but the didn't change much . Don't expect them to change significantly but do expect your brain to get used to the laid back sound . Once you get used to it you will find the bass plenty and maybe even slightly boomy in the mid bass.

Black cube linear isnt a good amp imo. But the hd 650s dont have a whole lot of bass

How do you guys think:
Flacs from laptop > E10 (DAC) > Asgard 2 > HD 650 would work compared to Flacs from laptop > Modi > Magni > HD 650?
I'm primarily interested in boosting the treble/vocals a bit.

I'd suggest replacing the E10 with the Modi. I found the E10 to be fairly dark and muffled sounding. Disliked it with the HD-598/DJ100, but OK with the Q701.
Could also try the ODAC. ODAC and Modi are comparable.
Liked the Asgard 1 with the HD-650...

I've actually preferred the Magni/Modi over the O2/ODAC for my 650s. While the Modi and ODAC seem very comparable to my ears, the Magni just sounds a bit more dynamic than the O2. I've since picked up a Lyr and it's far better at driving the 650s than either the Magni or O2.

I wouldn't recommand using the E10 as a stand alone DAC. With the different amps I had on hand, it sounded congested and muffled. With the two options you suggested, I would eliminate the first one, though I have not tried the E10 with the Asgard so bear that in mind.
