Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I've gladly kept both.  There's enough difference.

The HD-700s are slowly coming down in price and the thought of having a mini 800 is intriguing to me.

Can I ask what genres you like better with the 700 over the 650?

I'm not genre specific really.  It's not like that for me.  It's more like, how do I want to hear things right now.

But, the 700 does the spaced out head trip a little better.  Maybe also the rock n roll.  The 650 does the other stuff.

I've read so many reports of vocal sibilance with the 700. It seems to be a consistent theme and a deal breaker for me.

I don't think Ive ever read anything good about the HD 700. Comfort maybe but that's about it. I haven't heard them for myself though.

C'mon no good reviews? I have 700, 650, and 600 and each have pros and cons. It's like having 3 children and having to choose who is the best. Enjoy each child. And can.

Huh. I never thought about it, but neither have I.

I mean, that's not entirely true, people obviously don't say they're awful, but I've almost never seen anyone recommend them outside of maybe if they're on a CRAZY sale. The attitude seems to be "pick between the 600/650, or go high end and get the 800." I can honestly say I've sometimes forgotten they exist.

Sitting with my new 650s right now. Sampling back and forth between them and the 600s. Like others said, there are way more similarities than differences, but off first impressions the 650s seem to have everything I love about the 600s, but also ironed out the complaints I had.

I have had both the 700 and 650. The main advantage the 700 has is soundstage and imaging. If those aren't real important to you then there isn't much reason to get a 700. I think the trade off is the 650 is more transparent and sounds more even top to bottom. In my case I kept the 650, sold the 700 and bought an 800. All problems solved!

I used to own HD650 for a good while when I got a chance to compare them with HD700 at home using WA7 amp with upgraded EH tubes. After hearing wider soundstage, better instrument separation and clarity of details I was unable to come back to HD650
