how will the modi/magni or o2 compare to a aune t1? Looking for a bright and forward sound.

I wouldn't look into tubes for what you're aiming for.

Has anyone ever come across (p)leather pads for the 650's? Does anyone make such a thing? I'm curious to know what that would do to the sound. More bass impact perhaps?

More sweat for sure. I wouldn't trade comfort for bass impact, which is already plenty in HD650, IMO.

Pads from the HE60/90 are leather and fit. They are expensive and hard to find. I have seen them on EBay and was tempted a few times to try them,  but could not bring myself to spend well over $150 to get them when the stock pads sound as good as they do.

There was a pair for sale on here with them on a bit back.

Thanks for the input guys. Aye, I'm happy with the comfort as is but I'd like to hear if there's a difference in sound all the same. I'm certainly not going to pay $150 for the privilege though.

I am prolly going to put my HD650 up for sale soon.....if anybody following this thread may be interested shoot me a pm......like for them to go to someone who is really excited to get a pair.  If no one here is interested, then I will post in b/s/t

They have always been keep on a headphone stand....even had a dust cover over them on stand, when not in use.

Great cans....it has been an honor to use these cans and they have been great fun....I hate to get rid of them...but something has to go

I'm actually really interested.

I've been looking to upgrade from my HD598's and I've been scouring information about the HD650 needing excessive amping for a decent sound. How much would I be expected to spend for an Amp+DAC to justify an upgrade from the 598's?

Amping? Yes. Excessive? No... Modi/Magni combo is at the minimum, which is under $200.
