Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

My HD650 just arrived. Initial impressions:

1. Someone say smooth? Spot on.
2. I swear I hear more subtle details than I do with the HE500
3. Very comfortable
4. Sounds great with the La Figaro 339.

Very happy thus far with the purchase. I feel as though once the mental burn in occurs, I'll love them even more. The HE500 are for sale now as I don't need 3 headphones. I will be picking up the HE560 soon after they're actually released though. I feel they'll compliment the 650 very well.

I agree 100 with your assessment. I use them with the DV337SE and enjoy the combo very much. The HE-500 was once littered with talk of the 337, but I think has much better synergy with the HD650.

Glad you like them.

So is the LF339 better than the Crack + Speedball? Which one is the better value? I'm interested in getting a Crack but I've heard that the Speedball reduces the soundstage?

Get Chord Hugo. Better than them.

Interesting. I also have the HE-500's coming tomorrow. I bought those first but then found an awesome deal on the 650's, which arrived first. I am REALLY liking the 650s so far, but will be interested to compare both after tomorrow.

So you're liking the 650's more, but do you find the 2 to be significantly different? Or are they fairly similar, with the 650's just performing better overall ?

I wouldn't say similar. HE500 sounds more open (grill mod) and crisp with deeper bass whereas the 650 is a bit smoother. Right now, for me, the HE500 is a better headphone, but I'm still mentally burning in the 650 and will be getting a new cable (that may or may not make a difference). I'm selling the HE500 because it is just too uncomfortable and the 650 is proving to be a worthy replacement.

Hey guys, looking for a dac + amp for around 300 AUD for my hd650s. Want something which sounds fun, bright which livens up vocals. Will be used for edm and trance. Any recommendations?

Schiit Modi/Magni is a good cheap combination. Bifrost/Asgard 2 would be even better combination, but way out of your budget, I guess (considering shipping and import duties).

ODAC/O2 if the price is right.

Meridian Explorer sounds pretty great with HD650s.

A slight variation, Schiit Valhalla 2 with the Modi for now, moving up to a Bitfrost when you can swing it. OTL power and the 650's is magic. Cheers!
