I haven't seen one of these polls in a while. So how much do you just listen? I guess we would call this 'critical listening'. This does not count multi-tasking (like what you are doing right now). I would not include commute time either- even if you are not driving. I mean, how many hours do you sit back in a quiet place, close your eyes (or stare out into space) and just listen to music? This could include combined headphone/IEM and speaker time if you have it. 'Dozing-off-before-bedtime' -type listening is okay too.

Oh wow, probably only an hour a week. Music always compliments whatever I'm doing.

I listen to music all sorts of music all the time almost non-stop til i go to sleep or am watching a movie or taking a bath. Even when playing computer games i'll usually go into the games music folder if it has one and put in some music that fits the games setting to make it even more enjoyable. Bethesda Softwork rpgs are perfect for this.
When am out in the boring world i usually have my Sansa iPod with me playing music to keep my mind positive and open to the good things in life instead of listening to the rants of complainers on the bus and streets. Its been like this since i was a teenager with his first Sony portable cassette player in the mid 1980s.
Music is like air to me.

It's hard to say. I like to have music playing all day long. I do other things, but often take a bit to just listen.
I especially love to let classical and jazz play in the background. Some works that haven't "sunk in" actually do while I'm not paying explicit attention to them. Funny how that works, but I truly enjoy it.

Listening with phones only about 4-5 hours a week, but most days I have either Jazz or Classical playing in the background.
Oh man...I never do critical listening, unless I'm auditioning new gear.
I should just delete my Head-Fi account, shouldn't I?

That's a great question. I end up doing a lot of photography and just walking around. I have learned to work my camera even with an I-Pod in my hands. So at times it's 3 hour runs here 3 hour runs there. Learning to do photography while wearing headphones has increased my enjoyment of the hobby. The other cool thing is when wearing headphones in public it gives you a polite way of not talking to strangers when they attempt to talk to you. Most of the time they are trying to sell you something so many times having headphones on allows a person to not even hear them. A person who has a real question will seem to look different and warrant taking the headphones off for a talk. I am way over 10 hrs a week, maybe 50 hrs a week. Critical listening never! I chose answer number one.

I always have music on everywhere I am, and I'm currently sitting in front of the iMac with an iPod and Senn MM60 headphones, but I'll sit down and "critically listen" and enjoy music a few times a week, totaling about 12 to 15 hours a week probably. Late night, lights out in the dark style. More if I wasn't addicted to this stinking internet!

2-33 hours weekly roughly.
But it honestly varies due to schedule changes and amount of work/errands and whatnot.
Love to just listen with a glass of ______ (scotch/coffee/carbonated water/etc)
As it is one of my hobbies I try to squeeze in time but it's pretty tough.

I was told long ago that's mandatory equipment while listening. I've adhered to that rule since the start.

After the day is all set and done, i sit down with the SE535 and my Classic and i just listen to podcasts, music, etc, for at least 3-4 hours a night. How do the rest of you dont do that? Seeing the 5-10 hours a week?

about 5 hours per week (most of that is when travelling to work/home), i don't have that much spare time to only listen to music as most of it is spent on finding new music or other hobbies like books and games.

Let see....
40 minutes commute to the office in which I listen to music and/or podcast (Tech News Today)
At the office, I probably have background music playing through speakers of headphones for 4-6 hours (depending on meetings, etc).
40 minutes commute from the office to home in which I listen to music and/or podcast (Tech News Today)
NOW, the time I spend JUST listening is unfortunately between 1 to 4 hours a week. I am married with a 1.5 year old child, so I don't have a lot of alone time. I really enjoy spending time with my wife and kid (he loves to sit with me in my drum set), but I really enjoy some alone time every week just to either listen or play music.
