Oppo Sonica DAC (an affordable ES9038PRO Sabre DAC)

Thanks Erik!    I wonder if this is the same DAC that will be built in to their new UDP-205 Blu Ray player?   I really enjoy my HA-1 HeadPhone DAC/Amp and also my Blu-Ray 205.....even though many folks speak about the ESS Sabre Glare...

Well that makes it very interesting then as a replacement of my HA-1. Wonder what a good matched HP amp would be for my LCDX. Looking for a warmer less clinical sound than the HA-1. Probably getting the Focal Elear soon too.

for the owners of Mojo would it make sense in investing on Oppo DAC for network streaming or in investing on Poly, recently announced add-in module of Mojo for streaming.

You may just be using the HA-1 as a DAC and, thus, already know this, but the Sonica DAC has no amp section.  Stack them to use the Sonica DAC with the HA-1 amp.

Yeah - thought I'd also pick up a nice head amp while I was at it. I do like the HA-1 as a preamp to my stereo system.

Noticed it had a ground connection on the back. Will it have a phono input that goes into the Aux?

Directly from the Sonica DAC user manual:

AUX Audio Input
You can connect an audio device with a stereo analog output into the AUX IN of Sonica DAC using a pair of audio interconnect cables. The input signal will be digitized and made available for streaming to other Sonica speakers on your network, and at the same time will be converted back to analog via the RCA and XLR outputs. To select this source as the streaming audio input for your Sonica speakers, select AUX IN as the source from the Sonica app or using the Source Selection screen on the Front Panel Display. Certain analog audio devices, such as phono preamplifiers and turntables, might have a separate ground wire. Connecting the ground wire to the ground terminal on Sonica DAC is optional. If connecting the ground wire to Sonica DAC does not result in lower noise, it is not necessary for you to do so.

Note: Input signal from AUX IN passes through analog‐to‐digital and digital‐to‐analog conversions before it reaches the XLR or RCA outputs. Although the signal quality is still excellent, this is quite different than passing the same signal through an analog pre‐amplifier. For this reason Sonica DAC is not recommended as a replacement for a pre‐amplifier for analog audio signals.

This unit is beginning to look better and better.  Now I want to see what the UDP-205 will do in comparison we already have the BDP103. Maybe my wife would want some Sonica speakers in the house? This is a headphone forum but in the back of my head buying the UDP will make me want to buy a 4K TV...

Anyone have an idea as to why the unit is delayed by almost 6 months so far?  I can guess component delivery, unexpected design issues, licensing issues, but I'm wondering if anyone has any data.
