Oppo PM-3 : The Portable Planar - Impressions

It is quite easy to replace, so if Oppo support can provide earpads replacement, the problem can be solved..

However, generally speaking, i am extremely disappointed by quality of PM-3's quasi leather fabric.

This is what i have after 300-400 hours of home-using PM-3 during 10 months.

Oh holy cow! There must have been something very wrong with your model. I have mine for over a year, listening every day for a few hours inside and outside and they are as new! Contact Oppo. They have to replace your model. That just can't happen.

What can i say, it is kind of warm and humid where i stay last months.
I guess heat and sweat was a killing combination.
But anyway i was incredibly naive with my expectations of four hundred bucks gear quality level (

Seen that many times.
People complaining about bad quality of ear pads, which for me, after extensive use, were still as new as I unpacked them.
I guess the atmospheric conditions, and amount and acidity of the sweat, plays a crucial role in it.

I guess. Mine is about a year old and I dont use it everyday. When not in use its in its portable case most of the time. I may get new pads, but i am looking for a non leather headphone now of equal or better sound quality. I am seriously considering the Massdrop HD6XX. really tempting. I dont know if the beyer sound is for me.... from all that is described I think I would both love and hate it....

thank goodness I have the Sony 7520 to fall back to. its pads are still in good condition, but hasnt seen as much use as the pm3, so that may be why.

Long run, may still get the pads for the pm3 and hold out to get an elear........ but am so afraid of that beast...... may just end up getting the HD6XX

Woah, when my ears get that sweaty under a pair of cans, I reach for IEMs. Turns out, I've been listening to my IEMs a LOT this past summer. Sucks that your pair of PM-3s got so ragged.

This is reason I went IEM rather than closed portable, sweaty ears. Even at home I reach for IEM more often than full sized closed because of that. But PM3 still on my list.

Just got the Noble BTS (Bluetooth receiver) delivered to my office. https://nobleaudio.com/en/shop/wireless/
I'll charge it tomorrow and test it with PM-3 to see if it can drive it reasonably for on the go use. I don't expect Mojo or DP-X1 performance of course but could be a nice solution for using quality cans around the house and on the go. I have found that PM-3 are a bit harder to drive than my Meze Classic 99s and the Fostex TH-X00, so if it work with the Oppos the other two should sound even better. I'm sure the Noble BTS works well with IEMs so my Flare R2Pros should sound sweet.

Hi,

How did you get on with the Bluetooth receiver? Just got mine, keen to know if it was able to drive them?

Um, no. Just... No. No bass. None. Not enough power to drive PM3. Might work for podcasts, dunno.
BTS does a reasonable job with IEMs and with Meze 99 Classic that are low impedance. PM-3 driving device they are not.
