Same preference here too. Originally it was just SR009 and LCD-3 for me. Now it is SR-009 > HE1000 > LCD-3. I haven't tried other orthos since LCD-3, meaning I haven't listened to Ether, the Foster flagship (forgot model name) or Abyss - but from Macedonia Hero's review,  looks like I haven't missed anything, because now I also have the HE1000.  :p

I Have the HE1000 on order........ anticipation.

Going to look into the possibility of driving these with my Bottlehead 2A3 amp. It shines w/ the K1000.

If it can drive the K1000, I'd guess it will have no problems with the HE-1000s.  But that's only a guess.  You'll know very soon.  There's already an evolving list of amplifiers that show particularly good synergy with the HE-1000s.  Interestingly, those that match particularly well don't necessarily have the highest wattage.  People have discovered these amplifiers by listening and testing them for themselves.  (Imagine that!)  Among the reportedly great matches, here are the ones I'm aware of so far:

McIntosh MHA-100
Auralic Taurus II
MicroZOTL 2 (Designed by David Berning)
Headamp GSX Mark 2
HiFiMAN EF-6

It will be interesting to hear how the Bottlehead 2A3 does.

I would love to have a 2A3 amp. I have some great NOS 2A3 RCA black plate. Well the micro Zotl is doing fine.

I would LOVE to see some comparisons of any of the above to the HiFiMAN's own EF-6, which I have.  I think it is breathtaking with the HE1000s, but I have never compared it to these others, so I would not presume to say it is better, or even as good.

My mistake for leaving that one out.

Well, better late than never; the above post has now been edited with a link to your fabulous EF-6 (vs Lyr 2 and HPA-1) comparison.

I have a pair of the RCA blackplates as well (very nice) and the JJ 2A3-40s are pretty punchy and nice  to look at w/ the 300b size glass.

I don't think the HE1000 comes w/ a speaker amp ready cable does it?- did you make your own with a 4 PIN XLR to mate to the HE1000?

It doesn't come with speaker terminal ready cable. On my cables I terminate most of the time with Hirose and from that I have adapters for just about everything.

I don't find it too small (have a small head), BUT it IS uncomfortable, have to use a wrap on cushion to use it, puts pressure on the top of my head (shiny top) and is uncomfortable without the band, OK with it.

Thanks. Is it uncomfy due to the weight of the phone causing the strap to put pressure downward on your head? Just trying to understand.
So how many hek owners have the new smaller band? Any comments on the fit ? Thx again.
