Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Honestly, I got lucky.  A larger diameter circle will have a greater effect but will over dampen the sound and it might be too bassy and loose.  Too small, and you don't get the benefits.  I haven't bothered changing the size as it does what I wanted and I don't want to keep unscrewing the grills as the screws are into wood and will loosen each time that's done.  Feel free to experiment if you want!

FYI, the template I used was a Hifiman retaining ring using the inside of the plastic ring to make the circle.

The inner circle I'm pointing at here?  This is my Hifiman HE6 pad

Super easy to do and totally reversible.  Just be gentle with the screws.

I wanted to add, since I placed the paper towel circle over the stock foam, and it doesn't reach to the edges of the metal grill, it actually allows for decent airflow even while acting as a damping material and acoustic reflector.

the paper towel circle looks roughly with a diameter of 7.5 cm or 3 inches.

Well, after nearly ordering the M1060 I'm glad I held off to get a feel for the reviews. I instead ordered the Mod House Audio Argons. I'm still very interested, but am considering the M560 and maybe waiting for the 3rd batch of M1060.

It will be interesting to see what changes/update Monoprice implements to fix the early issues. I'm confident it will be resolved.

I got my M1060 yesterday and I am very happy with it up to now. My Argon will arrive next week so it will be interesting to see how it fares in comparison.

I just requested a return on the 1060's dueto my  long term concern about future cracking and build  failures . I have the MR SPEAKERS Aeon on order so that will suffice.

I have a brand new set of Audeze Vegan Pads for sale I bought them last week for $65 . I will sell them for $55 and includes shipping in the US. Please Pm if you like purchase them. SOLD

The sound is good but needs more refinement in the production process. Have fun modding these.

Lower price planar magnetic headphones seem to be in fashion. Just read an article about these from a New Jersey outfit named Tidal Force. Launching a Wave 5 planar in April, taking pre-orders now.

By the way, I'm in the UK and have no connection with them at all. Read about it on Flipboard.

Similar to the Monoprice M560 then? Although more expensive of course.

Must confess the QC problems with the Monoprice have prevented me from importing a pair of the M1060 to the UK

The TidalForce has a 560mm driver:scream::scream:

560 mm Planar Diaphragm
Advance sound channeling and isolation
Rugged all metal construction
Extreme Comfort Ear Pads

Lol 560mm :p If only.

Looks to be a complete re-brand of the Monoprice unit. They probably have the same OEM or Monoprice is their source. It's the exact same design, without the wood plates, different design pattern on the headband as well as the metal headband. If you actually look at the specs on their website and monoprices M560's, they're the exact same, including weight.

However, TifalForce appears to be charging a $100 more.

That headphone looks insanely similar to the 560's design, especially that headband area.

As I pointed out in post #1791, it's likely the TidalForce Wave is a repackaged OEM version of the MonoPrice M560. The specs, included the terminology and order of specs, are almost identical. Too much a coincidence for these cans not to be related.
