$300 more isn't out of the ballpark but i'm going to wait to test them at the meet. I don't think i'll be able to settle with a less transparent headphone from now on.

Besides, with returning the LCD2s and selling the denons... poof! Funds.

Since it came up, here's something I copied from one of the previous meet threads:

HELPFUL GUIDE FOR THE UNINITIATED (& friendly reminders)

(This list was published by SiBurning, and was built upon lessons learnt by the NYC crew, thanks guys)

Personal Hygiene is important.
  1. Wash your hair and your ears.
  2. Avoid the use of products like hair gel, hair spray, mousse, etc. Seriously, some of the headphones you'll have the opportunity to try cost more than a good used car. We don't want your hair gunk on our headphones, thanks.
  3. With all the gear & other members, it gets warm in the room. Dress accordingly.
  4. Again, it can get warm in the room, so don't forget the deodorant (THIS goes for oldtimers as well). Baby powder & cologne are not adequate substitutes.

The most important thing of all is to have fun.
  1. Meets are great, so be prepared to have a great day with fellow Head-Fi members.
  2. Bring whatever gear you want. If you don't have any, that's OK. Just bring your ears.
  3. You can try whatever gear you want, but be polite, ask permission, don't be a gear hog, etc.
  4. If you have any questions about gear, look for the owner and ask. Or just ask whomever is listening (after they're done).
  5. Do not be shy.
  6. Mingle.
  7. You will (almost certainly) find everyone to be very friendly & helpful.
  8. Most of all, enjoy yourself and take the opportunity to hear gear you normally wouldn't get a chance to, or are thinking of buying.

Get organized.
  1. Take a mental (or written) list of what you want to hear. If you do this before the meet, leave some time to look around and listen to some surprises.
  2. You'll be overwhelmed with the amount of gear that will be at the meet.
  3. Read the impressions thread afterward. You'll realize you missed listening to something you wanted to hear.
  4. Time flies at these meets.

Remember that you're trying out another member's gear.
  1. Treat all gear with the utmost respect.
  2. Ask if you're not sure how to operate any gear, or you're just curious about the system setup. Some gear requires headphones to be plugged in at all times, some gear doesn't like it when you unplug headphones unless the volume is turned all the way around. Don't just assume that everything works the same way. Just ask, it can save a lot of heartache.
  3. Respect the owner's wishes.
  4. Give it all the velvet cushion treatment.
  5. If you have any doubt or questions, ask.
  6. Do not place headphones on top of other gear--if you're not sure where to put it, ask the owner.
  7. Do not remove any gear from a setup without the owner's permission.
  8. Do not remove any cables or make any other changes to the setup without the owner's permission.
  9. If you do take gear away from a table, or borrow cables, adapters, or power strips, try to remember where you got it from, and bring it back when you're done. In all the excitement, it's easy to forget where you got that 1/4" to 3.5mm headphone adapter.
  10. If you listen loud, remember to lower the volume for the next person.
  11. If you don't know or are just curious about something, ask someone. Anyone. Someone knows, or knows someone who knows.

Here's how it worked the last time I went. I arrived and was asked if I was bringing stuff. if I was, i could get some people to help get it all out of the car and get a little area of the room staked out for my gear. You put masking tape with your name on it for all gear to avoid confusion and attempt to keep gear in one area. IE dont ABX between multiple peoples' sets of headphones and then leave them, take them back to where you found them or hand them off to the next person in "line". Generally theres tons of stuff to try out, take pictures of, or just talk about with other members. This was at the head-fi headquarters so jude was there and he had whole cabinets full of stuff. You can also talk about music and such with people, specifically your test tracks and why they are your test tracks.

I would recommend creating a quick-access playlist of your test tracks. I have like 5-7 songs from 3-4 albums that I use, and after that I just put my thing on shuffle and see what I notice, like, and dislike. We had pizza for lunch, though I dont know the food arrangements this time around.

So basically, you show up, set up your gear, look around real quick and meet some people, figure out what you want to definitely listen to, what you would like to listen to, and what you'll see if there's time for. Then you go about listening to it, taking pictures, etc. Last time I had my zoom lens so I didnt have to get all up in peoples' face and could take pictures from 5+ feet away and still get "macro" shots of the stuff. The lighting was an issue though, so make sure you know how to work your camera (custom white balance or post processing) unless you are going full auto and dont care about sexy glamour shots.

Bad news guys.  I just discovered that I have work related commitments from the 15th - 19th of April so it would be unrealistic for me to drive 13 hours from North Carolina on a Friday night to make it.  I originally planned to take time off starting on the 15th but I can no longer do that.  I'm really bummed about it, I was really looking forward to this meet.  Sorry everyone, I'll keep an eye out for future meets.  I can always use visiting my wife's family as an excuse to come up there

Add a crazy rare Sony DR-Z5 to the list of headphones I'm bringing!

Haven't received it yet, but it's supposed to be an extremely revealing headphone from the late '70s. Warm and lush with wonderful imaging, very organic sounding.

Well, I'm still driving up to Michigan, I just won't be able to make it in time for the meet because I have to leave that Friday night.  I'm probably just going to hit the NC meet on saturday instead since it's only a 4 hour drive and then head up to Michigan that Sunday.  I PM'd Takato14 about this but if there's a few that really want to hear my gear badly and are in the area near Holland/Zeeland, maybe Grand Rapids area, I'll be there for about a week or so and I don't mind a small get-together of some sort that I could demo my gear.
