I've been meaning to ask, how does the FXD80 timbre compares to the FXT90?

And we have lift off, finally got my FX80's, i can see what the fuss is about, they're like a lighter, flightier eph-100.

Those are still king of edm for me, whilst i reckon the jvc will own for vocals and percussion.

Gave myself a quick little listen, and it's straight in with the harsh burn in, and no peeking for at least two days of burn.

Major congratulations, Huxley.

Are the music ends of the both Yamaha and FX80's the same diameter? I ask because I had returned Yamaha's solely on fitment issues; rediscovering it, I suspect, by way of the FX80. Currently working it out with the FX80 with Monster gels and eventually trying the Auvio.

Also, interested in your assessment among the two IEM's.

Does anyone else find the 80's to sound a bit too bright? The 10kHz peak is bothering me more than I thought it would. I'm using the stock tips but I just picked up the Auvio's and I'm about to give them a try. Next will probably be some trimmed comply. I remember the FXT90 sounding too bright at first, but it smoothed out over time. Has anyone had this experience with the 80?

I agree with others here that the 80's are very dependent on angle and insertion depth. When I first tried them I thought the left channel wasn't working but they were just at the wrong angle.

Nice, we have another victim.

The FXD80 is definitely hyped, yes, but there are measurements that help explain the reason for it aside from the excellent price and sound it outputs.

Mostly this measurement.

There aren't even reviews on these things and people are putting off buying the GR07 MKII? You will be sorely disappointed if you think these are within a shout of competing with the GR07. The GR07 has an unmistakable reference monitor sound. The GR07 has been out for a year and a half and still manages to stay on Page 1 in multiple threads. This topic is just a hype and hearsay just as the CKM500 was - better than average and popular only due to its predecessor and brand. Where is the FXT90 thread? It's gone.

kiteki I googled your data and found it was from the wikipedia page for specific strength. Those numbers are for strength, density, specific strength and breaking length, respectively.

Here's an interesting blurb at the bottom of the table:

Note: Multiwalled carbon nanotubes have the highest tensile strength of any material yet measured, with labs producing them at a tensile strength of 63 GPa,[15] still well below their theoretical limit of 300 GPa. The first nanotube ropes (20 mm long) whose tensile strength was published (in 2000) had a strength of 3.6 GPa, still well below their theoretical limit.[18] The density is different depending on the manufacturing method, and the lowest value is 0.037 or 0.55(solid).[16]

They're basically ridiculously stronger than any other substance it seems. Crazy.

Also, thanks to Flysweep for finding out about the Auvio tips. They bring out more bass from the 80's which balances out the emphasized treble to my ears. The bore is wider and the tips are able to be pushed further down onto the iem so as to sit flush with the end. Good stuff!

Suddenly, sales of Radio Shack Auveo's are going THROUGH THE ROOF!

So a little update: To my ears the biggest difference between the FXD80 and the FXD70 is that the former (80) has an insane amount of black space between instruments and surrounding vocals. So I may have to recant my agreement with our head-fier who stated something is missing or scooped out. I don't think it's that really; I just think many of us aren't use to hearing space around instruments the way you hear it in the 80. I don't really know if the FXD70 bass is deeper because I hear so much clarity in depth in the bass with the open FXD80. But you do hear the bass slam on the front end more in the 70, where it's extended more on the back end of the 80s. Soundstage the 80s may be a a bit more wider, but not clearly wider. The FXD70 holds up well next to the FX80, and is not too far away (except for the space around instruments). I might even up selling or giving my FX40 away. They are good but not needed. As for the FXT90, haven't had them around to really A/B them, but I do know there is more sub-bass in JVC's D-line. And I think there is some layering from the double drivers that won't allow me to sell the FXT90 because I dig that sound so much. Still hyping these JVC's High Definition line.

Thanks eric.

For me the JVC FXC51/71 has an intimacy level the FXT-90 can't quite reach, due to the different placement in drivers, of course apart from that the FXT-90 is superior, I just think the micro drivers in the tip of an IEM have an inner-core fireflies soundspace.

Definitely noticed this black space. I initially thought something was missing too, but now I'm not so sure. Either way it's a very interesting phenomenon.
