1.4.2 for me is the best firmware, getting the balance between dx80 and dx90
well played ibasso!

do any of the Russians on this forum have advice on text encoding for my Кирпичи и т. д.? The text shows up fine with DX80 fw 1.3.3 (lurker font), and the cards scan fine, but if ISO-8859-1 or UTF-8 are better, I'm happy to switch.
If ain't broken, don't fix :) UTF16 is OK and is most compatible. ISO-8859-1 code page has no Cyrillic letters at all, by the way.

Does the DX80 output 24/192 on the optical port? [question makes sense?]

Yes, it does.

I have just tested my DX80 with 1.4.0 and Sandisk 200GB + 128GB.
DX80 output  the optical port to Onkyo Atmos Receiver or Onkyo older 636 like below.

1. MP3 , or FLAC, ALAC 16/44.1 , 16/24/48, 16/24/88.1 working fine.
2. FLAC 24/96 sound distortion and sound disconnected.
3. FLAC 24/192 or above no sound at all.
4. DSD 64/128 no sound at all.
5. DTS wave 5.1 16/44.1 sound distortion and time wrong.

Please post your results if you have different.

Please check your optical cable. The DX80 will output 24/192 by optical but the cable has to be able to handle the bandwidth but no DSD.

I used the optical cable came with DX80 by iBasso.  I tried my DX50 optical cable also, the same results.

It's a coaxial cable and no optical cable. An optical cable is made of a plastic or glass fibre core and passes through red light signals (the DX50 doesn't have any optical output, by the way).
If you are experiencing the same results with your DX50, I would suggest to try it with another source. Are you even sure your Onkyo devices were designed to handle those bit depths and resolutions? I suggest to check the manual (if you still have it - or look it up on the internet).

Just having a digital coaxial input (your Onkyos), it doesn't mean that a device is able to handle all kinds of formats.

Neither DX80 nor DX50 have bundled with an optical cable.

I'm having the same sort of issue, but my only problem is with 24/96, it sounds distorted and horrible... my 24/192, 24/44.1 and 24/88.2 all work just fine. Didn't have this problem with 1.3.3 so I might be going back to that.

Based on feedback here, I will update the firmware 1.4.2 and test more Coax output, please ignore above test results about 24/96 and 24/192 and it looks results vary.

I'll try 1.4.2 as well, still on 1.4.0, but I think the reason mine works with 24/192 is because my DAC goes into NOS (non-over sample) mode at 192 kHz, so the clocks basically turn off.
