Some people compare the re600 to almost the same sound quality of the hd600 is this true? Or are they exaggerating

Just like full-sized headphones can't really be compared to speakers, I find it difficult to evaluate in-ears vs. full-sized headphones. The presentation of the three mediums are too different, and all have their inherent strengths and weaknesses.
I will say that a properly amped pair of HD600 is quite formidable though.

I just got a pair of RE-400 and what I'll say is they have the same CHARACTER as the HD600, but obvious being an IEM they won't have the size or space of big over ears.
I was looking for IEMs to complement my EL-8 and these do it perfectly.

I got RE600S last week, and I gotta say it compares amazingly well (from iPhone alone) to my Westone W40s that cost 3x as much. Some things seem clearly better to me on the RE600s than the Westones. The thing with later Galaxies is they don't have huge power, but I have been averaging halfway up on iphone (which has more power than Galaxy). It is not a bass heavy IEM, but much more bass than say RE400s.
If you are not using a balanced source, get the "S" model and avoid the adapter. Also, you can still get them from some dealers on Ebay and Amazon for the recent $149 sale price.

Anyone know how to open up the housing of a Re400? Someone mentioned that btg audio refused to mod the 400 as the driver is too fragile. Mine is still working fine, but I wanted to swap out that annoying cable, it makes tons of noise rubbing against the shirt, and wearing it over the ear didn't help much. Is the 2 piece housing glued on or actually screwed on?
Actually, I accidentally opened up my pair. At the middle of the earpiece, you can see where the two different pieces of metal connect. It's held together by glue. Give that a good twist by holding firmly on the body of the monitor and the nozzle (after removing the ear tip). Inside, you will find that a driver is attached to the nozzle part of the metal, connected by two wires to the other metal body piece. I'll post pictures if after the ten years between these posts anybody is still interested.

Hi guys, today I replaced the black filters on my re600-s, I noticed there was a small piece of white foam attached to the filters, I removed it and now it feels more sparkling to me. What do you think, is it meant to be there or is it right to remove? Do you guys have the foam or not?

What's the filter mod people are doing with the RE600? Removing it altogether or swapping it for RE272? If the latter, where are people getting the filters from.
Don't know about the others, but I removed my filters altogether and replaced them with a small amount of cotton swab. Then I used small pieces of dried alcohol swab to protect the nozzle before I put the tips back on.
The result is a RE600 with considerably better treble presence than stock, but still sounding very smooth and devoid of high frequency peaks.
I've never heard the RE400, but ime the RE600's treble still retains its smoothness and gains noticeably better presence with half of the original damping.
There are even some who run them with no filters at all, but to my ears they sound peaky that way.

I dont possess 600s but 400s......yes,you need to replace the foam glued to new filters that you are installing,if you want to re-gain the stock sound or you can also try what getclickinagas directed to tom22's cotton swab, if the stock foam is unusable..however, you might want to giv a shot if you really want to check how your 600s sound without the foam but just the filter before you prepare to stock setup back.

Ok.I prefer the sound without foam, I find it much crisper! I've always liked sparkling highs since 30 yrs ago I began messing around with azimuth screw on my first Panasonic walkman

After a month with RE600s, Westone W40 now sounds down right boring. I've tried lots of things but settled on stock filters with Comply isolation foams. And turned up the bass just a bit. I'll post more comments when time permits, but am very, very happy with them so far -- amazing for $150.

I just modded my RE400 by removing the foam and just using the black filter. I then use the smallest stock tips and insert the IEM deep like Etymotic deep and oh my.....no more lack of bass and highs are more pronounced but still retain the smoothness, no loss in mids too. Thanks for the tips Shawn71. For those who are complaining of bass lacking then try using the smallest tips and shove the IEM deep inside your ear canal (ear rape)....don't worry, you won't hit your ear drums and tell me if it's still lacking in bass....
PS: Just for size comparison's sake, I'm one that always use large tips.

If I use smallest tips, they just don't seal and iem get out of ear canal.
I use Ortofon small silicon tip, or stock biflange small.
Ortofon give me better highs and mediums, while retaining a good amount of bass, while stock biflange give me little more bass but loose in clarity.
Ortofon is a little difficult to place correctly into my ear canal, since they're very soft silicon, so if I feel lacking of bass, I just have to twist and find correct positioning.

I use the smallest tips to get deep insertion....that's the whole point....deep insertion.....like the Etymotic ER4 type of insertion....ear rape for a better description
