Maybe a brushed black aluminium in place of the veneer or something?

Problem with using a natural product like timber is you'll get defects like that from time to time.  And the moisture content in the air varies in different parts of the world, so if they send them overseas in perfect condition, something like what's happened shown in the photo above can happen after a number of weeks of them living in their new location...

The wooden cups of the pre-order HE-560 were awesome... To bad they didn't fix the cracking issue and went with veneer instead.
They also tuned the sound thinner and brighter in the process. The HE-1000 goes even more in that direction (fuller, though).

Some people who herd the prototype from CES commented the CanJam samples sounded less full and faster. I hope Hifiman does not push it further.

009 with better frequency balance would suite me fine. Extra decay is coloration that can't be removed.

It's the pads not the cups. Getting the focuspad As that came with the pre order 560s will restore the pre order sound.
I am thinking of putting the guts of my HE-560 to my HE-400i's cups. The veneer wood just looks ugly on 560(which is what I use majority of the time). I know a lot of people have wood fetish but at least make it optional on HE-1000 for those who want it. I reckon an all black motif will make HE-1000 will make it look more high-quality.

Ask pauldgroot, he's replaced his 560's cups with custom made wooden one. Looks really sexy, I kinda want to send him my 560s and have him do something similar.

This is so tough.

I have my heart set on the LCD 3 - I'm even gonna sell my 650's to fund it! And now people say that hifiman's next offering is on par with the Stax.

I need that detail!

Oh god first world problems

Had a good few hours with both the other week.

Love them both. I don't think the stax is technically 4 times better and no way 4 times more enjoyable. But yeah I love them both. I've really fallen in love with Audeze.

This is the dealer that will be getting the he-1000's in:

I plan on doing a review for them so everyone in the UK knows how good they are. It's like the Disney world for headphones. They have EVERYTHING.

Yeah I think isquirrel mentioned a fair while ago that he already ordered his

Yeah but he paid like $4299 aud. I think. Maybe with conversion that is not such a bad deal but I got mine for $2699 usd from ttvj cause I bought a peak/volcano last year. Todd loves package deals, got a demo hd800 and wheatfield ha-2 as well for $600 off. Going to have a little triple setup when it arrives.

Source: Sp25/fr54/pellar, Tascam cdrw900sl, Auralic ark mx+
Amp: Stax srm 727ii, Apex peak/volcano, Wheatfield ha-2
Headphones: Airbow sr-sc-11, hd800, he-1000
Speakers: Adam a7x(pair), Adam sub8

Can't wait. For those wondering how I'm going to run 3 amps off the one dac the 727ii has parallel rca out's that I can run to the wheatfield. Todd's best estimate is June.
