The HEK needs a lot of power to come to life and show all its potential You have the Moon Neo 430, so you must know this fact very well

Are there any third party earpads available for the HE1000? The stock HE1000 pads are quite hot

Pretty sure there are not because many here are waiting for the v2 pads like no tomorrow. If somebody made angled pads out of real leather that would definitely be a top seller!

Couldn't agree more. I would pay top dollar for custom ear pads for the HE-1000.

The "heat" issue with the HE1000 seems two-fold--one is the cloth inside the cup, which rubs against your ears, and the other is the earpad material that feels like wearing wool over your ears. You'd have to address both of those to reduce the heat buildup with these cans.

My mind and ears are still deciding which one they like most so in the mean time I'm listening to my HD800

Any more info or is that post just a tease for an upcoming article on Headfonia?

Incidentally, I notice that the CanJam EU report on that site quotes the following when comparing the v1 & v2.. "My unit is still in burn-in but it looks like the V2 sounds clearer with a little less body in bass and lower mids."  Not sure I like the sound of that.

V2 sounds more forward compared to the v1, less relaxed with a brighter tonality yet it is not offensive at all . The lower bass on v2 is less present but the mids are cleaner and more precise. v2's treble for now shows sibilance sometimes with the wrong track/source/amp. Something V1 never had. But the V2 is still in burn in, let's hope it improves/changes. For now I would say the V2 has a less spoken for signature than the v1 has.

V1 bass, V2 mids end V1 treble together would be perfection

Less Bass, more forward in the mids and treble..... Sounds like HD800's to me.. Exactly why I own HD800's; to complement my HE-1000.

HE-1000 needs more bass.

Can you swap the V2 pads onto the V1 and tell us how they sound?

Hoping the upgrade isn't a "no brainer" in the end, but have to wait for burned in impressions...

Actually I swapped V1 pads onto V2

. The some characteristics of HE1000 V1 came back: bigger image, less precise, no brainer deep bass, less impact.
I heard V2+ V1 pads in the first 100 hours

V2 spent much longer time to burn-in to reveal good bass(depth, quantity) as V1.
I think it took me 200 hours at least to meet my requirements in bass of V2.
The transition of bass and mid would still take time to burn-in to be good enough after 200 hours.

V2 ear pads are much comfortable. I wouldn't have an itch wearing V2 pads.
V2 pads get gorgeous treble and mid than V1 pads.
Much precise image and deeper soundstage.
More impact/punchiness revealed which won't shadow details.
V2 drivers sounds forwards, lively, appealing. (V1 was too calm.) New V2 drivers gave me more lively details in mid and treble which weren't heard in V1.

I'm now burning-in new cables and I will finalize my impression to HE1000 V2 then.

My first impression to V2 cans+V1 pads. After 100 hours V2 would get better.
10~100hours
V2 cans+V1 pads:
slightly increased bass quantity in extreme low frequency.
slightly laid back in whole frequencies but not so much as V1 cans+pads. (between V1 cans+pads and V2 cans+ pads)
soundimage and positioning are ambiguous than V2 cans+ pads. (almost same as V1 cans+pads)
Soundstage: almost as same as V1 cans + pads.
transparency same as V2 cans+pads. (better than V1 cans+pads)
details:same as V2 cans+pads. (very slightly better than V1  cans+pads because V1 is laid too back)
musical/emotional: same as V2 cans+pads. (better than better than V1 cans+pads)
impact/punchiness: less than V2 cans + pads. ( same as V1 cans+pads)
tonal balance: same as V2 cans + pads
