Hifiman HE1000 Planar Dynamic Headphone

i know it's a matter of opinion but i'm finding these criticisms over the top. sure it's not understated but it doesn't look cheap or gaudy to me either.

The grill and the headband are the two components that look the most cheap to me, the headband especially.

The headphone just doesn't have a finished look to it.  It appears rough around the edges like a prototype should look.  I hope they iron that out if they're planning to ask $2500+ for the finished product.

Well as far as cosmetics go I'd prefer all black, but really if the performance is there I dont really care, the Abyss does not look great to my eyes but if no other contenders appear this year I'll be buying the Abyss (I hate the price more!)

Why do most people talk about the price of $2500 or even more for the top HifiMan headphone (HE-1000), if HifiMan's biggest competitor - Audeze has its top model - LCD-3 priced at $2000 and HifiMan always seemed to be price-competitive to Audeze and had lower prices for equivalent models of their headphones?

The HE-1000 is statement headphone, not a LCD-3 competitor. It's indirect "competitors" would be the other statement headphones like the SR-009 or Orpheus.

Some will argue that the HE-6 is the actual LCD-3 competitor (TOTL vs TOTL), but 40% cheaper.

I understand that it's a matter of opinion but I've got the original lcd3c that is pre fazor and I don't consider them any worse than the fazored version unless the only experience that I had with them was pre burn in...

I highly doubt that stax sr009 are much better though I'm not considering buying them but I will be getting the he1000

SR-009 is far superior to the LCD-3. I'd expect the HE1000 is on the same level as the 009 and HD800.

So basically you're trashing LCD-3...

Because it was already alluded to by Moon-Audio when Drew created a page on his website for the HE-1000.  It was priced at $2500.

Search this thread.  You'll find the picture I'm referring to.

That may be your interpretation. No where did I say the LCD-3 wasn't very good nor enjoyable.

I'm not sure the SR-009s are statement headphones opposed to just TOTL stax.

Unless headphones are limited by samples, I would also see them as TOTL. Orpheus was a statement product imo. I surely hope the HE1000s are TOTL, and not statement product.

Does it mean Audeze is only to release its statement headphone?

You said that HD800 is far superior to LCD-3, I don't find it like that, I've had a listen to HD800 and also own HD700 which I don't use anymore and I'd be selling it soon... they just don't get any head time.

It's very hard to draw a conclusion as to how a LCD-3 actually performs (or is supposed to perform): Audeze was plagued with production inconsistencies.
I've heard a really good LCD-3 and a claustrophobic one at the same meet. Could have been the upstream gear, but the difference was much greater than what I'm used to hearing between 2 amps or DACs...

I recently heard the LCD-3F and didn't like it at all, much preferring the "good" LCD-3 I heard.
