I picked up a used pair of HE-6s recently. Absolutely loving these cans but I don't find the stock velour pads to be particularly comfortable. Looking to pick up either the Focus or Focus -A pads. What is the difference between these 2 pads and which do folks feel are the most comfortable and which yields the best SQ? Does anyone feel a different pad than these is a better choice? Tks
If you wash the stock velour in fabric softener or mild detergent like wool wash they are less 'scratchy'.
I have the focus pads and, while initially more comfortable due to softer velour, I find their flat profile more annoying on my ears than the rounded profile of the stock velour.
The vegan pads have a pillowy softness - but actually hotter on my ears for summer wear. Maybe because I was used to the stock velour, and don't find them that bothersome, I found the Vegan's comfort not a decisive factor for me.
BTW, I found aftermarket headband padding mandatory for the HE6 - used some form of padding from day 1.
As far as sound goes, I prefer the stock velour to either Focus pads or Vegans - but I'm apparently very much in the minority with this opinion (I sold my Vegan pads).
YMMV.
Would the HDVD 800 be able to drive these the HE6 to a reasonable level on the stock balanced cable?
Do you guys think i can make a jadis orchestra reference amp work with he6 ? And what cable would i need ?

Have just joined the HE-6 brigade (got the Danish resellers demo pair at a very good price when he closed down) after having loved and owned the HE-500 since they first came out. They came with a set of Alphadog pads which are very nice (used j$money on the HE-500). The tonallity of the HE-6 is clearer and brighter than the HE-500 and no doubt technically better however the HE-6 is clearly much less forgiving of tecnically poor recordings and there is something to the HE-500 midrange with female vocals that might be better but all in all I'm very happy with the HE-6 and I expect them to get the majority of my head time in the future. I run them balanced from my RudiStor RPX-100 amp and it seems to drive them very well.
Tillykke Jan!
I expect that you have already read this and the HE-6 thread at Hoved-Fi.dk and know about the mods that can be done to tame the excess treble.
Is there a speaker amp for ~$600 with 1/4-inch (or XLR) outputs? Emotiva seems to have discontinued most of their cheaper amplifiers: https://emotiva.com/products/emotiva/amplifiers-0 — though they never had direct connectors for headphones. I'd prefer to get something made by a non-defunct company.
