Hi I am a bit of a novice, when it comes to HE-6, does HE-6 come with a balanced cable, or do I need to get commercial cable say from Norneaudio or moon-audio. I am getting a Ragnarok and would like to get the HE-6, for when it's properly matched to a good amp, I hear the sound is Devine. Hope everyone has a fun moment listening to some fantastic music.:)

The stock cable has a 4 pin xlr and an extension that is a standard rca connection. So you have both. I think that the balanced is 5 foot and the extension is 2 or 3. The stock is not bad but you can do better.

You can do a lot better than the stock cable, in MHO. The one I had made by Norne Audio is the Vanquish. It is really good not only with the HE-6, but with the 560. And Norne might even have a better one than that which I'm anxious to try.

I would like to hear the 6's with the Ragnarok. I'm driving mine with the Mjolnir... excellent partners!

This is the combo I use now.  250 watts into 8 ohms.  I think it's the highest watt amp I've used so far.

The headphones have since been modded so they look different now - I need to take new pictures...

Man I really have to hear the HE-6 on a speaker amp like that.

my usual set up was hd800 / decware csp3 ( used to be alo studio 6) - this he-6 and Sophia el34 amp ( 28 watts at 8 ohm ) is very enjoyable and I believe I like the sound better than the hd800.

Hey... question for you good HE-6 folks...

Are any of you powering your HE-6is with the Mjolnir, as I am, that have also heard the 6's driven by the Schiit Ragnarok? Or, the other way around.

Also, are any of you driving your 6's with the Hifiman EF-6... and can compare that amp with the Schiit Rag? Or, the Mjo.

Thanks...

I have heard of folk using the Ragnarok to push the HE-6. I hope to order the Ragnarok, this December, and then I shall get HE-6 early next year. This hobby throttles my wallet, till it turns blue, it does.

Well unfortunately it looks like I'm jumping off of the HE-6 train. I love them but I just prefer how intimate sounding my 650s are largely because the combination of the HE-6's impactful sound but having a presentation that feels like it originates an inch or two farther away from your ear is kinda unnerving. It's hard to explain but I just don't get the same kind of slam that I do from the 650s

Can't say anything about the Ragnarok as I haven't heard it, not a big fan of the Schiit gear that  I've heard though but ymmv.  I did try the EF-6 with my HE-6 and imo you can do a lot better at the price, even if it means going for a speaker amp or vintage gear.

@reddog:  It's an expensive hobby, certainly if you want to squeeze the best out of very specialised gear such as the HE-6.  Take it easy, try what you have and don't go wild and crazy, the latter is very easy to do if you spend too much time on this site.  Ask me how I know :)  Remember that it's about the music in the end, not the gear.

+1. @reddog: I have had the privilege of meeting Xenophon in person and discussing audio an headphones especially the HE 6. Listen to the man !

Wise words to reddog... and to me. You can easily become addicts to audio gear.

What drives your HE-6's to keep you calm in the buying market?

Thanks for your input.

I'm really enjoying my Oppo 105>Schiit Mjolnir>modded Hifiman HE-6's.

Yeah, that's what I keep telling myself. But if I was to be honest, It's  about both for me now. If it was only about music, I would still be rocking the Bose 301's that I had 12 years back. Back then it was only about music, didn't care much about equipment. The passion for music will never decrease I know for sure, hopefully the lust for equipment will die over time.

I tried the HE6 on the Schiit Mj. Bass is lighter & highs are bit hot, when compared to my tube speaker amp. Sound loses a bit of the weight & soundstage. M9 is much better. The Mj should be reasonably ok if you have a warm DAC. I have not done the fuzzor mod, Only have the Grill Mod.

I was using a DHC silver hybrid cable, so I changed over to the stock cable. Highs are not hot anymore, though a bit of treble air & clarity also  have disappeared. But this is more conducive to long term listening as sound is more "pleasant" now.

So I spent the last hour listening to it off the Schiit Mj (never tried it off the Mj before). Not bad for a HE 6 starter rig before one graduates to speaker amps

, subject to other variables in the chain not being bright. It shows 70-75% of what HE 6 is capable of IMO.
