I agree. I find that the mini gives a little bit of a bass kick with the HE-6, but the Mjolnir sounds a little thin in the bass. 

If you ever get the chance to hear the HE-6 strapped to a Nelson Pass F1 on a very transparent source, you'll not hear that kind of bass on another headphone (strongly IMO). I was stunned on how forceful and frankly brutally powerful it portrays. Your chest might not rattle but the cranium will. I took them off and felt like I was getting off the ride of a killer coaster.

I was amazed when I first took my HE-6 to speaker taps. I always thought they were bright and bass light. We were all so wrong. Amazing what they turn into.

Yeah its hard to find a price..and still didnt find the price for a f1.. For his bigger brothers i found prices..but f1..zip.. Its like finding a needle in a haystack

"Accidentally" cut off the 1/4" plug and connected HE-500 to my Rega Apollo/Mira 3 combo in the living room. Wow! This brings HE-500 to a whole new level. So controlled and airy. Have to go to sleep now, but can't wait to get another listen to this rig. If it sounds this good tomorrow, I'll start getting the things needed to make myself a nice Hifiman speaker cable

The HE-6 thread awhile found this kind of stuff out. Basically, planars (especially hifimans sound really really good out of speaker amps. I think you'll find the same results tomorrow!

All I can really say is that I use the TubeMagic D2 over the Bifrost. The Bifrost is a good DAC, but I didn't find it sounding much different from $150~200 options with the same connectivity. So I'm using what simply sounds great and seems to match well with my current setup, and the D2 fits the bill more. I wanted more of a tube/warmth sound and found it in a tube-dac rather than fooling around with pre-amps to my Emotiva. I don't get technical with DACs, I find a $30 DAC that sounds as clear as something way more expensive. Some people talk about them like they are drastic game changers, but so far, my ears have not had that experience. I've had appreciable differences from amplifiers, but not so much from a DAC--at least until I used a tube-dac, then I finally heard a DAC change, but what I'm really hearing is simply the tube pre-amp output instead of the actual DAC chipset difference I wager.

this might be a dumb question, but I'm getting a cable made to hook up my he400/500 to the emotiva.  would bananna plugs to a 1/4 inch female suffice?  or should I go with banana plugs to xlr.

I would go with xlr as it seems to me like a safer solution. The Emotiva mini-X has common ground but afaik not all amps are made like this.

I can't seem to find what I'm looking for - Maybe you guys can help. I'm looking for a product similar to the one in the pic below, but it seemed more refined. As I recall it had 3 outputs with different gain and no volume knob. It is meant to be connected to the outputs of an speaker amplifier.

After 2 months of using the Emotiva, I can finally and wholeheartedly recommend the Mini for pairing with the HE-500. Initially I was impressed with the Emotiva although felt a lacking center stage. After 2 months of using it, I have finally gotten used to the sound and it's very, very pleasing. Bass lovers will be satisfied. I'll have to give the O2 a listen again sometime to see where I fall now after my initial review, but for now I'll just enjoy the music.
