Sennheiser really needs to step up to the plate and address the members on this. Yes they have MOT members that lurk the forums. Moderators should give the Senn MOT members some leeway and allow them to post openly in this thread (IMHO). If they share common driver diaphragms and its the implementation that sets them apart... then say so.
Its widely believed the SR80 and SR60 share common drivers, yet there is no "fire-sale" of SR80s and unhappy SR80 users, because the SR80 is the preferred product, and does some things sonically the SR60 is incapable of.
There is no disputing the night/day sonic differences between the 580 and 650. The HD650 has a well deserved reputation as being the superior or in many cases preferred unit, and furthermore it does some things sonically that the HD580 does not.
As a side note.... At one point I had two different HD580s, one stock and the other modded with HD600 grilles and HD650 cables. The two were VERY different sounding, the modded unit had considerably more bass impact and deeper extension. Unfortunately I did not have an HD650 at the time to compare.
FWIW... my HD580 drivers are generic and dont say anything on them.
Keeping members in the dark on the authenticity and legitimacy of HD650 does not help, and only fuels further speculation.
