I must kindly disagree. Many expensive SS amps work great with Grado's. It's all a matter of taste. Finding an amp to drive the Grado's is very easy. The dac/amp choices can/will change the nuances of the Grado, but the house sound will be there with all amps and dacs. Some OTL tube amps are a no-go, others can work. Some amps may emphasize a treble spike, others won't. Price has zero to do with it.
I have the filo BTR-7
I only run it in balanced as all my grado have been moded but it sounds good for a portable better than my last portable dac Dragonfly black(SE).
I am not to keen on the bluetooth with apple products can be annoying at times.

Nice. I used to have a fiio e11(I think that's the name) way back. I liked it. Was only curious because I'll be buying a schiit pietus soonish. But my brother thinks the fiio k9 pro is probably a better idea because he trusts the name more. I've heard a ton of good things about the k9 as well, so I was only curious about synergy. Glad to hear it sounds good.
I still need to try the F pads on my RS1x. I keep putting it off. Interestingly I've seen some people say they're terrible on the RS1X, but others say they're the best.
You should totally get the F pads for your RS1x, it's like getting two different pairs of Grados without breaking the bank. The sound change is pretty awesome! Way punchier than the thin sound you're stuck with using the L pads.
Same here, I've stuck with the L pads ever since I got my RS-1x, love the sound and don't even find them uncomfortable - the longest stretch so far is 8 hours. I have F pads on my SR325x so it would be trivial to try them on the 1x and I know it would increase the bass but the thing is, I like my 1x being more specialised than the 325x, I like them for fusion, jazz, prog-rock and acoustic recordings and putting the F pads on them might take some of that magic away. I have no doubt that I'll try them at some point but until then I'll enjoy them for what they do best.
I would be curious to hear your thoughts on throwing the F pads from your SR325x onto your RS1x. I mean, it takes like 10 seconds to swap those pads, right? Pop those F pads on your RS1x, and trust me, you'll actually be able to tolerate those crunchy riffs from Prog-Metal bands.
No need for superhero ears to handle the F pads. Just give your Grado's headband a little stretch and be patient for a few weeks while the F pads get comfy. After that, you won't even feel them on your ears.
Even the Ls arent bad when worn in. My 325i have super worn in pads and I can't even feel them. The L pads on my rs1x are still breaking in, so I get a bit of pain after 2 hours.
It's been about a year since I've listened to the Hemp. First time using the Yggy + GS2 with them as well. Oh my! Tremendous headphone. I'm moving this into my rotation. Won't go a year without listening again! Amazing what happens when a headphone becomes a fresh listen...
