I really want Google play services and the android market. Or at least have a directory of white listed apps that we can download.

I told Vince earlier today that I was thinking along the same lines. Either give us the Google Play store or set up a repository with the latest .apk files for music services that are known to be malware-free. I say this because I downloaded a few versions of Tidal 1.8.0 trying to get one that worked. Some links actually downloaded completely different apps, most were Tidal 1.8.0 at just under 9Mb. One was supposed to be Tidal 1.8.0 but was almost 19Mb. One ended up being a game.

IMHO leaving it up to the user to find the right .apk and verify that it's safe is a bad move and will lead to dissatisfied customers. Just my two cents.

I'd love a podcast app and Audible, too.

Removing the whitelist would make it easy to install google play services and consequently google play store. However there are alternative App stores such as the amazon app store but that requires a constant internet connection and third party stores have malware problems. So Google Play Store is the best way to go about it imo

This is a bit of a double edged blade.. On the one hand it creates an easy user experience for finding and installing applications. On the other hand it opens up people calling Fiio asking why their device dies so quickly. And often this is due to other installed applications. Take if from a phone support guru who's company has released android products in the past. People will complain about why Angry Birds doesn't work or why the battery dies faster when X is installed.

Thankfully, most of us here have the knowledge to go "don't do that"... But others won't. Working it tech support has truly destroyed my technological hope for humanity. This all being said, if Fiio continues on a locked path, someone on XDA will hack the S*** out of it and remove the whitelisting anyways.

To be fair, most people who are buying the X7 won't be installing games in the same manner as a phone. Anyone whose looking to drop $649 on a DAP has probably researched it well enough to know its a music player first and foremost so I really dont think there is anything to worry about in that case. But then again the only thing more infinite than space is human stupidity so there is that :p

Lesser of two evils as it will be hacked anyway.

Make a version of the firmware that removes the restriction, but also requites the user to sign a waiver, a.k.a. 'do-it-at-your-own-risk', before downloading it.

That's how Sony does with Xperia user who want to unlock their bootloader in order to root their smartphone. This at least make it clear that FiiO is not responsible to whatever third party apps user want to install. On the other hand, those who are less adventurous can stay happy with the whitelisted apps.

p/s: An opened firmware might also encourage third party apps developer to make X7 optimized apps as well, which will be a win-win situation.

Tidal ON, but not playing, right? Still, 11-12 hours even with Tidal ON (but not playing) is good enough for me. I might not want to turn the player off all of the time due to the 25 second restart time (it's not that bad, but long enough to make me think twice about shutting it off).

Yep, I have to change my habit from X5, where it shut itself down after a certain period of inactivity.

You are correct mate, wifi ON, Tidal ON (but not playing), blue light ON (I doubt this makes any difference), and Dunu 2000J plugged in, 11-12 hours stretch from full to dead

It would be even better for Fiio to include an option of auto shutdown after a certain (user selectable) period of time

2 superb comments from you sir, I fully support you here 110% - I think pre-installing Google Play for the western/export market version (illegal in China I believe) is the way to go and let user choose what they want to install, whoever is buying X7 and choose to download and play Candy Crush or Pet Rescue Saga...well...bless them I'd say...

I totally agree. I need that feature and am surprised that it's not available. I presume it has "auto-resume" though? (I need that as well).

Seems like X7 would definitely benefit from deep sleep mode with quick resume.

We hope so too. but the RK3188 can't support deep sleep as we did in our X3II, X5II.

Hope you guys can understand that now the firmware is not the final version . lots of new features are wating for added in the future. like USB DAC, DLNA,  but I believe that the X7  will become better and better when the new firmware released in the future.

remember we just released the final firmware for our X3 which was released in 2 years ago.
