I really think that people can use equalisation without feeling any loss don't need a hi-res DAP to listen to their music.

One thing I would like to add is that if the X7 is the masterpiece of FiiO engineering, the ultimate statement product, that you shouldn't need to in effect have a daughterboard of an external amp...

Nothing wrong with the X5 / E12 stack, but - having the E12 (or - better!) internals (minus battery, as that could be shared) inside the X7 as a one-box solution would definitely win you some new fans...

That's the problem--should the flagship player connect to a flagship amp or be a flagship amp? Part of the Chinese player market is currently in a one-upmanship game of bigger and bigger integrated amps that a reasonably-sized X7 can't ever hope to match. You can see the question posed in this poll

What phones are you driving again Duncan? :)

Hi Joe,

Are we talking power, or fidelity though, does it need to be shouty to be great (okay, I'll rephrase my own point, that the output stage could be improved further, so that those who do not want a two box setup do not feel compromised, afterall, this is going to be a no compromise statement product)...

Me? I'm using Sennheiser IE800 - they have successfully cured my upgraditus, now in my sixth month of not having bought any headphones / IEMs...

For full size, LCD2.2s :)

Currawong put it rather succinctly awhile back...let's see....iirc, it went something like this: (thank you advanced search function)

When choosing a dap, you can only have two of these:

1. Great UI
2. Good battery life
3. Can properly drive full-size cans

My feeling is that if they sacrifice anything, it should be #3 - that's why they also sell amps, right? I like the approach Sony took with the ZX-1, but we'll see what happens.

Most importantly, the DAC section of the DAP should be as good as can possibly be made, because people can always add / swap portable amps,
but you can't swap the DAC inside a DAP.

That is the good thing with brainstorming, helps bring out lots of opinions / thoughts that can be dismissed / embraced accordingly...

I must admit that zachchen has a fair point that without the best DAC, the rest of the chain is broken...

Sorry, I have lots of demands. It might not be easily attainable, but a good challenge just makes you better, no?

Better than Sony UI, and most clear, detailed, accurate, and natural sounding DAC/Amp section for iems(since iems(transparent ones) are very sensitive can pick up lots of nuances).

I'm sure the dual DACs are more of marketing than anything else, but most importantely, best implementation of course will reap best SQ.  Fiio never fails in the output impedance department, but that's not everything to it, AK has great SQ with around 3-4ohms output impedance.  Make the best deign judgement, if you think it needs multiple channels for DAC, use one, like the 9018, if you think it's the same for mobile interms of performance, with power savings, that's fine.  I've been liking ESS sound lately, not sure if it has more to do with implementation as AK uses 2 Wolfsons and they sound great.

It would be nice to use it as desktop DAC(with line-out to a nice amp for the desktop rig), and nice quality internal amp implementation for clean sound for very transparent iems.

I personally think, no need to put in an extemely high power amp as people with power hungry over-ears should get a dedicated amp to connect to the DAP, but for portable over-ears, it makes sense to power them adequately.

I have high faith in you Fiio, and you can do it.
